My partner did work from home for a bit, --heavy phones, but then he went back in to the office part time, then sort of back and forth, then the company was sold and he retired :)

Our angel Poppycat 😇 didn't really care either way lol so I don't have an appropriate photo :(

I've been working from home since March 2020. It's become permanent. We had two offices that we worked from and one has been closed for good. The other is for IT only. I love it. The girls (especially Sophie) love it even more than I do. The downside? Sophie gets upset if she thinks I'm going somewhere. She will frantically follow me around the house. I have to explain to her what I'm doing and if I really am going out to the store or something I have to reassure her that I'll be back soon. Every time I get back she's waiting in the kitchen window. When I pull into the driveway she will jump down and run to the door to meet me. Lily's normally not as dramatic. She'll start following me too but once I explain what I'm doing she calms down. Our trash and recycling get picked up on Wednesday. On Tuesday I was bringing things out to the pails and they got it into their heads that I was moving away.

It took me several trips to get everything out there since it's just me doing it. I'd go out, they'd panic. I'd come in, they'd relax. This went on until I was done and the pails were at the curb.

Here's Sophie sitting on the desk su-purr-vising me during the day. She also likes to sit in the chair right behind me or on the headrest sometimes.

Sophie is gorgeous! I hope they are reassured that you are NOT going anywhere!
Love the Tagore quote, BTW. So true.

oh, babies!! :vibes::hearthrob::hearthrob:

I myself never got the opportunity to work from home, but I think I'd've loved it, depending on the job. I looked into medical transcription at one point but I don't think my wrist (broken in a fall from a horse) would have been able to take it.

Yeah, IT wreaks havoc on the hands and wrists. I got rid of a nasty ganglion cyst on my mousing hand over time. It was huge and although it didn't hurt, it was demoralizing for me to have such an ugly thing on my hand!

Thank you. :hearthrob:

I had to go to the grocery store. When I was leaving she parked herself in front of the door and stared at me. I wasn't gone long. About an hour. When I got back she was at the door to greet me.

I love that quote too. It really is true.

I had a medical transcription business at home for years. I gave it up after about 12 years when I started developing carpal tunnel syndrome. I was wearing wrist braces and in pain all the time. Fortunately it resolved over time after I quit doing that kind of work.

Now I work at home doing admin and bookkeeping work for my hubby's construction business. Ozzy loves to keep me company.

I work from home in the sense that I’m my mother’s carer, and get the carer pension for that. When the time comes that she’ll have to go into a nursing home I don’t know (assuming Incan get a job) whether I’ll work from home or not. I’d like to work part time so as to get out of the house, and I don’t want to be stuck in here doing something like call centre work. I’m good at customer service but two weeks in a call centre was enough!

Caring for an elderly parent is so hard. I took care of my late mother-in-law who had dementia.

I'm an artist so I've worked from home for many years. My kitties are used to me being here. I don't mind their company but cats and paint just don't mix! The computer work is fine but if I'm painting, I have to go into a separate room. Also, regarding the carpal tunnel issues, I found relief when I ditched the mouse and went back to the old fashioned way of using the keyboard.

Bless your heart for looking after your mum; we need carer pensions here in the U.S. instead of those "nursing homes."

It’s not a job I’d wish on anyone, tbh. My mother has vascular dementia from a stroke. At least it’s not Alzheimers, there’s no personality changes or sundowning and so on.

I’m always grateful that, poor though our social security payments are, at least we have them! In all honesty if I had had a job that paid the rent I probably would have put Mum in a home long since, but even when we were both working - and they weren’t minimum wage jobs by a long way - we couldn’t afford to live separately.
