Hello all, to make things short; a neighbor recently gave me permission to take in a kitten he claimed to be a "stray" that stayed in his open shed because he worked outside of town and only returned once a week long enough to switch vehicles. He had more pets but I don't want to get into the details.
Anyways, I believe the cat to be younger than my ten month old kitten, Amira. Yes, I consider any cat under a year a kitten. Maybe 7-8 months. Well, it took me awhile but I believe she's pregnant. I have a strict no litter policy and always spay/neuter my animals and even went as far as setting a spay appointment for her when I originally got her. The soonest available appointment is April 22nd. I don't know what to do not due to my new found knowledge, I have never had a pregnant cat before.
Should I go ahead with the spay?
Would it be too late in the pregnancy to get the operation? (Approx. conception date: March 6-7)
If I decide to let her have the kittens, how do I care for her AND them?
Please, let this incident encourage ALL pet owners to realize the importance of spaying/neutering their pets. Overpopulation is a serious issue with large majority ending up in shelters, euthanized, or homeless with no vet care and being forced to add to the problem. Unless it is a lively hood in breeding registered pure bred animals, please resist backyard breeding! It is cruel and inhumane. If it's accidental, don't force them to repeat this multiple times a year. Make the sacrifice to put their health as a priority. Please and thank you for reading this far.
