We got our first snow storm yesterday. the idiots were out in full force on the road..you know. those who hate driving in the snow but block all the lanes on the highway instead of staying to the right and letting the more experienced drivers by in the left lane.

It was 25 at my house. snow fluffy soft but at work it was 33 and raining. so I would rather keep it 25 or under then no rain on top of snow.

This morning was 28. supposed to be sunny and 40s today. we are supposed to get cold cold temps on Friday. yay.

Cold in Northfield, IL! 25F right now, flurries off and on all day. Winter storm watch for this weekend. We only had our first snow last weekend, and it was a record-breaker in a few respects. Not looking forward to the rest of the winter.
Just got in from work in NW burbs and it's 8 degrees right now.  Frigid temps for end of the week.

It says it's 13 here in Northfield, and feels like -2. That sounds (and feels!) pretty accurate. A low of -1 tomorrow! Guess I won't be sleeping with the window open tonight.

It's frustrating to me when we're up here in the north freezing our butts off and it gets down to 50 in Florida and people starting screaming, "Oh I'm so cold!" on FB. Yes, we get it. You live in Florida. It's warm down there during the winter most of the time. We get it. Now shut up. I swear.
Pam, it works the other way too. I've mentioned before the folks here in Connecticut, including me, constantly bitch & moan about winter conditions. The meteorologists here on TV cream themselves when snow is forecast & schools close for 2-3 inches of snow. But we get NOTHING compared to northern states that border Canada. You could not pay me to live in Minnesota. Footage of their winters reminds me of those walk-in freezers that butchers have.

The polar vortex has arrived in the Chicago area. It's 13F (-11C) right now, with blowing and drifting snow. Low tonight is supposed to be -5F. Next weekend, we get another round of snow. Saturday night, in the middle of the forecasted storm, I'm supposed to go to a holiday gathering down the street, but don't know if I can make it walking through the snow on my gimpy knee.

Yay, it's 21C today after two days of 37 and 38C (104F). My cats are running around madly after sleeping under the ceiling fans during the day.

It's supposed to get down to -11°F (almost -24°C) tonight. And the walls of my bedroom are not insulated. Great.

Good thing I can sleep with a space heater running. I'm going to need it tonight.

I just saw Sunday is supposed to be -3 during the day and -16 at night.  Too soon for a polar vortex!

Where are you located in Australia? It must be somewhere in the north to get that kind of heat. Your kitties have the right idea!

I think you mean in the south?

Or did you mean northern Australia?

The news guy just said that it's -16 in Aberdeen :cold:. It's about zero here. Saturday night it's supposed to get down to -22 here, I hate to think how cold it'll be up north!

On the plus side, the polar vortex will pass and it's supposed to be in the 20s-30s next week.

In the south of Australia, it's colder. Northern Australia is tropical. They are below the equator, so it's the reverse of the northern hemisphere.
I understand that. I didn't see that you wrote in Australia. I thought you said "Where are you located Australia?" I didn't see the in in that sentence.

I'm in Sydney DreamerRose. We had the hottest December day since the early sixties and the hottest ever Decemeber night. It seems we are breaking records for heat every month these days.
