It turns out Emma had more than that one FORL I found and sent the vet a picture of
She had three third pre-molars pulled today because of FORLs and another tooth is questionable. The dental vet said this one tooth was slowly disappearing into the gums and we need to keep an eye on it. The vet showed me the x rays. The teeth pulled had no roots at all and one tooth was completely missing. No idea how I missed that while brushing Emma's teeth every other day
So  much for using tartar control toothpaste to keep dental issues away
The vet said that the cause of FORLs is unknown and some cats just get them no matter what. Emma was sent home with buprenex and a dental rinse. She wasn't interested in eating anything for dinner but I'll try to get her to eat something later.  Might have to break out the FortiFlora. I need to gie her a dose of buprenex, too.

Poor Artie.  I hope he starts eating more for you.  :(

And poor Emma!  Hopefully her teeth will stop having problems.

John got us a thin crust pizza that I was able to eat because it didn't require me to open my mouth very wide.  It's getting easier to open it, too.  But Monday, I get more fillings so we'll be back to being sore.  It's just because I have such a ridiculously small mouth.  I have to force it open as wide as possible and the dentist still has difficulty working on my back teeth.  She put in a bite block to make it easier for me to keep my mouth open so I didn't have to concentrate on it all the time, but it was still stretched much wider than I can open it comfortably.

Chula just had a dental a few weeks ago and had two FORLs that needed to be pulled.  Her recovery was pretty quick, so I hope the same is true of Emma.  The first evening, she was still high as a kite and was playing the big goof in her water fountain. The next day she was much more subdued but she did eat and continued to do okay.  I only had to give her the buprenex twice.  She really hates that stuff. Anyway,  just as a guideline, Chula was totally her old self within three days.  Emma might take a bit longer since she had three teeth pulled but she will hopefully be fine soon.  Keep us updated!

Emma didn't want to eat anything last night
All she wanted to do was hide under the bed. I had to pull her out to give her the buprenex. The buprenex made her stare at my laundry basket for awhile. Odd but at least she wasn't bouncing off the walls which would have meant Leroy would gotten in on the zoomies well
Emma did eat a normal breakfast
I topped the well mushed up raw with some canned food just in case. I just gave an other dose of buprenex. It hasn't kicked in yet but Emma seems fine. The vet wants me to give the buprenex for 5 days and schedule a recheck in about 2 weeks. The questionable tooth will be reassessed then. No toothbrushing for a few weeks to allow the gums to heal.

@LTS3    wishing a fast recovery for Emma... the buprenex makes Artie so happy! He acts like a kitten when he has it.

@Alicia88  Artie did not eat anything at all yesterday. I did catch him trying to vomit, thought it was strange because he really does not vomit, unless he has a flair.  This morning, upon waking up, I found a wet piece of plastic on the floor in another room. All I can think of is that Artie found this plastic somewhere, ate it yesterday, and that was the cause of his not eating. Once vomiting it up, he ate 1 1/2 cans of food during the night.

I am very careful about any plastic. I know he is attracted to it, so I am at a loss where he found this.

Today no breakfast for him..

I feel your pain about having a small mouth. I do also. and I have TMJ issues where if I open my mouth too wide, I can dislocate it.

The corners of my mouth always crack and bleed from the dentist. I have to use vaseline, both before the dentist and immediately after.

I usually subsist on soft food like ice cream, mashed potatoes, smoothies, puddings...

BTW, has anyone heard from Tallyollpia  ???     I had a strange dream about her last night...wondering if she is ok??

Good news that Artie ate during the night.  What is it about cats and little bits of plastic?

About @Tallyollyopia  --  I've wondered about her as well.  She last posted in the scary story thread on 10/14 but even before then, she wasn't posting very much.  I don't know what's going on with her but it looks like she last checked in about two days ago.  I hope she's okay.

Emma hates the dental rinse
She let me squirt it on both sides of her mouth but then started drooling. It's not much different from the Petrodex dental spray I've been using and she tolerates better. The vet said that if Emma doesn't tolerate the dental rinse, it's not a big deal. Food and hair and gunk would just get stuck on the sutures. I gave Emma time to recover from the dental rinse before giving buprenex.

Glad Artie ate!

I hope Emma stops having dental problems.

I can open my mouth just fine without pain now.  More fillings on Monday!  Ugh.

If we didn't know we'd just adopted Mickey, we'd think all three of them were brothers.  They act like it.  I'm glad.

I had that happen a few times over the last couple of days - I don't know what the deal is.  I was getting that error message all day the other day.

I always have bad luck with pets. Once they get old, the health problems start and it's just one thing after another
It doesn't matter what species: gerbil, cat, mouse. Everyone is guaranteed to have at least one health problem in their lifetime
So far no issues with Leroy other than his occasional weird wet gagging / gasping / coughing thing that the vet is aware of and has done extensive testing on with no definite diagnosis
Maybe I should think of it this way: pets wind up with me because they know they're going to be well taken care of for life no matter what health problem they have.

Emma's still dong well. She got her buprenex and is now staring out the bedroom sliding door. Appetite is still good. Leroy's a bit fussy with his food now for some reason
He does eat when I move his bowl around. Not sure if he's jealous of the attention I've been giving Emma or if his tummy is acting up again. He did throw up some clear liquid and hair yesterday in the bathroom. Emma tried to clean the mess with the entire roll of toilet paper. I know she was trying to be helpful but still

I went out shopping yesterday at the Container Store. The store has their full Christmas / holiday display and merchandise up. It's waaayy to early to start thinking of the holidays
I know some stores had holiday stuff back in mid September
I'm not doing much this year again for gifts. I'm just going to send one person a box of gifts and maybe do some holiday  baking for work. Unlike past years, I'm not going to make dozens and dozens of cookies for work because no one appreciated it. I think I'm going to make a small batch just for the few people I work most closely with.

Body decided to pick this weekend to get sick again. The weekend I started sitting for a diabetic cat that I have to crawl under things to get to. Then I start taking care of another diabetic cat on Wednesday but thankfully he's way more mellow.

Looking forward to next weekend. Some "me" time, lol.

I feel accomplished. Worked on my ballot today. Got more name change stuff done and finished my halloween costume. Productive day on the whole.
This is why I never changed my name, what a nuisance and for what? I did know a man a long time ago who changed his name to that of his wife's because he was not pleased with his family name (some kind of skeleton in his closet) but I really see no point. Kids got their last name depending on their sex: girls got mine, boys got their dad's, worked out pretty well and when asked why their names were different they were taught to ask in return "why do you want to know?" which shut up most people and those who persisted were told it was none of their concern. Rude? The question was rude to begin with and deserved no answer.

Yes, I got an email from her about a week ago, she's fine, working like crazy, many times a shift and a half, there were lots of refugees from the hurricane in her town, then they left but returned when the flooding made places unlivable . She's still working on her story also and will post it when she has another chapter finished.

For kids (at least in this state) you can't be the one to enroll them in school, take them in to get a drivers license or passport, or in some cases dictate medical care when you don't have the same last name. That's the main reason mine is changing (also because it was something important to my husband).

My bratty cats are driving me crazy. Ruby and Carrot keep getting into little scuffles for no apparent reason. At breakfast this morning, Carrot jumped up to the counter they ate at a different way than normal and scared Ruby so she upset the water dish and everyone ended up soaking wet. Then during their second meal, Carrot glared at her (which he does sometimes when he finishes food and others are still eating), she totally was set off hissing and growling at him. I had to scruff her so she didn't bite me when I grabbed her to stop her jumping on him. So frustrating!
