I love the way you describe all of Mercy's little endearing noises.  Some day you should video them so we can hear her in action.  I've got a similar pile of cardboard boxes in my living room.  These are essential cat furnishings.
Yes I need to get some good video. Mercy is nearly 11 months old. She is leaving the kitten stage and starting to be her own little person. She is dainty and feminine and extremely social with us. Her widdle brain is starting to engage before her feet. She was so trying to get the little flying bug in the lamp but being oh so careful not to hit the lamp. She is an insanely good little cat.

Yes I will whine about all the boxes but they'll stay there.

I've enjoyed watching Mercy grow-up long distance and am actually nuts for her sweet face.   I remember when she first came home and was in her crate.  What a baby she was!   You definitely have a very special girl.

Well, I just checked the back porch to see if any of the dry food I left out had been touched. No such luck. Apparently our little stray was not hungry tonight. Maybe he/she will come back for food tomorrow? I hope he/she is alright.

I just found out about this thread. It seems like a unique and fun idea, good luck everyone!
Welcome to the thread!
You're right, it really is fun.  A warning, though - it does get addicting.  Right now things seem to be pretty slow but things should start to pick up soon.

Welcome to the thread!
Don't forget to babble (and fifteen words minimum per post and no consecutive posts, if you didn't catch the rules on the first page.)

A couple of things happened tonight, and I'd like a cat behavior explanation for one of them (if you don't mind). At my work there's a group of  at least three stray cats (I know someone's looking after them, because they have the clipped ear tips that indicate they've been TNR'd), and there are, of course, rodents around the outside of the building. (It's inevitable.) Well, last night as I was sweeping I saw one of the cats kill either a small rat or a large mouse (not sure which), then take the kill to another cat, tear it apart so that the innards fell out, and let the other cat eat the innards. I've never heard of this before; does anyone know what it is?

The other thing that happened needs a little bit of explaining. One of the things we're supposed to do at my work is plus-sell to customers--and right now we're supposed to be plus selling our special summer cup and its refills. Well, I had a customer come in early last night, and again around three this morning. The first time he came in I gave him the sales pitch for the cup, and he declined to buy one. (Customers usually do.) The second time he came in he brought a friend with him and said, "Hey, he hasn't heard about your special cup yet," so I gave his friend  the sales pitch. Then he turned to his friend and said, "See?" They didn't even buy anything. It's interesting, and I have no idea why that happened.

It doesn't really surprise me that one cat takes prey to another, although I've not seen it either.  They bring prey to us.  It makes sense that such behavior would have its counterpart between cats.  Bringing gifts probably isn't something cats developed when they started interacting with humans.  They were probably already doing it between cats and the behavior just expanded to include us.  That's just a guess though.

Now about the weird customers....  That was distinctly odd.   I'm having a very hard time imagining what kind of sales pitch for a cup is so entertaining that someone would bring a friend to see the show. You don't have to give your sales pitch in rhyme or dance a jig do you?  I'd ask one of your co-workers if they've ever had a similar experience.

I had a very hard time typing the above.  Paul is forcefully ramming my elbow with a very cold nose.  I fed him 2 hours ago but he has developed a handy case of amnesia and is quite certain he's due a meal.

YES my cats do this. Honeybee is the master hunter-she brings them in the house and lets them go. Then Floey will catch it then I boot both of them outside and Floey harasses it. The other day Jon told me he saw Pumpkin face doing this what you saw=she used to do this all the time when we go on vacation-it was always the last day of camp and she would pull out the innerds and of course I never saw it because I didn't want to. So yes they do share the killings. Honeybee has shared with Floey. Floey once in awhile will give Bee a lick then a hiss but then bee will bring her a widdle mousie. Cats. They are so adorable!

This morning when I backed out of the driveway who do I see go running back home?? that trouble maker Bee. We live in a very small community and most of the time she stays on our side of the land. Earlier about 15 min before I shook the treats and waited for an orange blur to come running home. Then she stopped by the house and wouldn't come near me. She was afraid because she knew she is not allowed to go across the street. So finally I convinced her to come in and gave her treats for coming when I call. Now during the day yesterday she was outside all day. I would call and she comes but not right away. Jon says she doenst come when he calls. I told him because you don't know her special places. Certain areas she always goes to. Must be where she has been getting the mice. Moles. Voles. She didn't catch anything yesterday but Jon saw her stalking a bird. She LOVES birds. I took down the bird feeders as I know plenty of other people have bird feeders. I just grow flowers so if they want flowers they can have plenty.

The bee balm is still not tall enough yet. Cant believe next week is 4th of July weekend and I may have to work due to new rules for overtime-our overtime goes by quarter and July is new quarter. If I work the first weekend then my percentage stays at 100% right away. If I don't work then it is always at 50% or lower and then they can make me work mandatory 8 hour shifts. we call it MO. So some guys we nicknamed MO. I hope it rains all weekend then I wont feel so bad about missing out but we do get the Monday as a holiday. big deal. I never used to work holiday weekends. I figured we fought so hard for them that it seems counter productive to work them but now I have no choice-all because of the union making a stink about something that they really shouldn't have so the company has demanded mandatory OT even if there is nothing to do. That's the kicker. make you come in then nothing is ready. Sometimes I really question the people in charge. But hey  I told the guys come in and sweep up the money they are throwing on the floor. Luckily we seem to get along pretty well.

I managed to survive without puking yesterday. I was so sure I wouldn't make it to the end of the show. I really, really am horrible with the heat. I'm gonna have to make sure and ask from now on if a show is OUTSIDE. I apparently wasn't the only one thinking it would be inside! Or, if it's outside, gonna have to say sorry to my friends playing earlier, and just go when the sun goes down. But I'll probably just end up skipping, unless it's cool outside.

At about a quarter after one, I'm gonna head out for a 10-12 minute drive due east of my house to meet the family of a kitty (and the kitty herself of course) that I may be sitting for in August! So excited! We'll see how it goes, and if she likes me, we'll work out any details. While it was money that spurred me originally signing up at Sitter City, I'm also filing this under "animal care experience". I just wish I wasn't so tired after yesterday, I'm still pretty worn out. Not tired as in "I need sleep" but that really deep physical exhaustion.

I hope your new kitty client works out! This is a great way to build up references for yourself. I am getting ready to leave work early and head to the gym. Got to practice getting some miles logged for walking. I still am amazed at the folks who walk 2 miles like its nothing. I want to sit down after half a mile! And its sunny and hot out. I told Jon to put the AC in the window if it gets bad but I bet he won't. He is stubborn that way. Have a great afternoon!

I don't know how far I walked this morning, probably more than 2 miles, but I finally walked for and hour at a pretty good pace.  I did stop to sip water in the shade occasionally.  Enough to finish my 16oz bottle.  I left my house at 8:45 and it warmed up fast.  Tried to go earlier but this cute kitty wanted to go out too.   Turns out he had a plan, which was not to my liking.  So it was a short trip.  When I first started walking almost 30 days ago I had to walk slower and 25 minutes was my maximum.

Walking in the pool was much more fun!  I walked backwards and sideways.  I jogged a little and did a few aqua aerobics moves.  Fluffy was sitting very alert in the tent staring at me.  I'm not sure if she was shocked or concerned for me.
Afterwards I sat on my boat (yes on, not in) and paddled around the pool.  Got DH to try it and he had a big smile on his face.  He sat in it.

I still need to do my FUNtional Fitness DVD today.  But first . . . a nap?

Welcome!  Yes, and it is also a bit addicting.  AND it is a unique glimpse into the everyday lives of our members, and one that I cherish.  I've gotten to know people better here than I ever thought possible!  Who knew, for instance, that @Tallyollyopia is such a talented writer?  And who knew that my "@someone's name"   function would QUIT FUNCTIONING YET AGAIN?

Now, over in The upcoming US Presidential election thread, there's been a little bit of discussion about mandatory voting, pros and cons, but none of us have any experience with it.   We know that Australia has mandatory voting.  Would a couple of our Aussie members be so kind as to drop in that thread and let us know how it works out for you?  Pros and cons...inquiring minds want to know!

@Mamanyt1953  Someone posted a tip about the @user name problem that I've found has worked every time.  Try typing out the entire user name instead of clicking on it when it shows up in the list.  It used to drive me bonkers until I started doing this.

We made it  back from the ocean today. Had a good time hanging out on the beach. Both cats seem happy to have us back which is definitely a plus.

Yay, got the cat sitting job! Got to meet the kitty, even got to hold her (she's one that likes to be held - I miss that so much!). This family is one from my own heart - they've only just started unpacking, and yet half of their living room is cat stuff. I was offered quite the nice amount per visit (I think my eyes may have bugged out - she thought at first she was too low!), and I said we could do it per day. Only required to come by once a day but may go more, depending on how the kitty is doing. And it's not like it's a long haul for me, it's less than fifteen minutes away. Ten if I don't get stuck behind someone going five miles under the speed limit like today! Plus most people around here seem to do per day. I dunno, maybe I'm undercharging, no idea, but like I said, more into it for other things, not looking to get every possible penny from people. Gonna put some notes together soon. Stupid me forgot my notebook today, I got focused on the fact that I couldn't find my keys and lost my concentration.

Anyway, did my shopping afterwards, and almost forgot I had to pick up Maple's pills. I got done with my shopping, was heading out the door, and had to do a 180 for the pharmacy. Of course there was a line, and I could imagine my ice cream melting as the seconds ticked by. I really like the particular pharmacist that was there today. I've had some of the pharmacists and technicians think it's weird to fill pets' meds there (it's true, a lot of people working at pharmacies have no idea human pharmacies fill pet meds). But this one thinks it's so cool that I work with my cats as much as I do, and she almost cried when I had to tell her I didn't need the cyproheptadine after Sara died.

Congratulations on the cat sitting job donutte donutte !

Glad you had a great time NewYork1303 NewYork1303 I bet your kitties are super happy to see you.

It's been a long 2 days for me. We built a new shed, had a birthday party for DH, went to my grandkids 'summer kids party', and now finally, time to relax and babble a bit. I'll have to go back and read everything to catch up.

Hahaha, pretty sure that's outside whatever my upper limit is. Hope you are able to find another one soon! I have a live-in sitter thankfully for the time being, but even that has limitations since mom can't really handle doing the litter boxes as often as they need it. So, 2-3 days is the limit now. After which point, I would need a sitter!
