Little movement should improve blood circulation, right?
    NOOOOOO

I can't stay still and do nothing as that leads to over eating so easily, but I guess I should.

e: According to this page, I could have up to 20% higher amount of calories because of injury. Might not be so bad thing that I have been eating bit too much.

What can you do, living on the edge or something like that it was, no? :D

Most of the day I have been actually in bed, resting that foot. Painkiller took away most of the blue again and toes are not quite as numb, so I guess they need to poke my veins with something to get blood running properly again.

It is really really really hard to keep resting my foot though, from most of the day walking and sweating to resting only that is huge change.

hang in there. yes depression can creep in but tell your mind that your body needs REST right now. if you dont rest the foot it may get infected and you will get a fever and feel even
than you already do now. Please listen to us. rest. 2 more days. you can walk to keep legs suple but you really need to stay off the leg. give the body a chance to heal. dont buy sweets. eat fruits and nuts instead. you can do it. 2 days=48 hours. to at least get some of that base healing started.

@JTbo  if we have to come over there and lock you in your room for a week, we will.

Some of us handle feral cats on a daily basis, we know how to handle you!

Seriously though, please be careful. If you drop something on your foot while it's already injured you could make things a lot worse. Also if you're not properly balanced you shouldn't be handling machinery, especially if it doesn't have the proper safety devices. You need to keep your foot elevated so that the swelling goes down, your body needs to rest so it can fight off the infection.

I'll help you! JTbo, just take it easy for a while. You've been doing a lot of work anyway, so the overall rest might do you some good as well as your foot. Plop down, elevate the foot, and zone out with a book or whatever you like to do.

So.....two miles on the treadmill this morning.

Interestingly enough, my butt hurt for the first mile, not bad, just twinges here and there, nothing really terrible. I started out at 3 mph, then took it up to 3.5. For the second mile, I took it up to 3.8 mph and just did my thing. Incline still at 1% right now,  but that's OK. And the pain started to dissipate.....I could actually feel it lessening. Til I was done, there was no pain at all. Yay for no pain!

(I didn't get the stretches done this morning; had a late night last night and, even with Ms. Pepe yelling, I really didn't wake up until the phone alarm rang at 4:50. No time for stretches. I'll do them tonight when I do everything else.)

If I could walk 4 miles a day, every day, I'd be happy and life would be good. Why can I not do this? There are 90+ year olds who walk 3 miles every single day. I should be able to do that, too! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

@JTbo    You do need to rest. I understand the part of living alone. I do also. But you have been so active for so long, that I am sure you have a stockpile of stuff just waiting for you to use them. Use up some of your supply for now.

Plea, I would hate to see the infection get worse, to a point where you may need to be hospitalized!! or worse.. yes worse.. You could even get blood poisoning. It happens very easily when an infection is not given time to heal or is repeatedly covered with sweat.. those little germmies get into places so easily.. By being active, you risk a lot of bad stuff....

Keep you foot elevated. The blood supply returns--NOT because of the painkiller, but because you body is working to heal itself while you are RESTING!!!!

Doctor said that everything is ok in foot and wound is healing surprisingly fast despite the infection which axe caused.

Wound has sealed and there are no leaking anymore, good thing I have done lot of exercise, I think it has effect on healing, also doctor said that I should keep taking painkiller as it reduces inflammation and can make healing faster.

You have to exercise my part for the week then, we can't let amount of exercising decrease here :)

Why is your foot blue at times? Did he give you any reason?

I'm glad that your foot is OK.....that's a big relief.

I went for a walk yesterday. Instead of driving to do jobs ( or run erands as you guys would say!) I walked. And at a good pace too. I don't know how far or even how long it took. It was great to get out in the fresh air. The sun was shining and it wasn't too cold. Today is raining and really dark. I'm so glad I made the most of the sunshine.
@ JTbo I'll do my bit to fill in for you ok ;)

Count me in to help with exercise, too.

Finished up my PT stretches and then did my workout for tonight. Took me about an hour.

Leg day today - oh boy!!! :lol3: I decided at the start of the week that I would start to have a treat after my leg workouts. Today was a blueberry muffin. I've been wanting to cheat all week but I held out
After my workout I then took a kinder gym class. Dragging all the equipment out is exhausting and then I ran around with the kids so I think that counts too.
I love exercise :D

:wavey: Hi guys! Long time, no see!

Finally rejoining this thread and getting my yoga (and Collie) routines back on track :hyper: :sheep:

Collie's on her usual summer weight-watcher's plan, so I'm trying to get to her every other day to give her some exercise...all that late spring grass has been her undoing this year :yummy: :lol3:

As for me, I've been back in the swing with yoga for a little while now, and my strength and stamina have really improved - especially in my upper body :D Now I just need to keep at it.....and hope my back and pelvis stay properly aligned :cross: :rolleyes2:

An illustration of Collie's current chubbiness - just LOOK at the ripples of fat pads on her neck and shoulders :scale: :disa:

I think she looks wonderful @Columbine  I love stocky ponies. The pony I ride, Ran Maru, has got a thick neck like that. Nice to have you back on the thread.

30 minutes on my bike yesterday.

An hour of energetic cleaning this morning, 2 loads of laundry, vacuuming and scrubbing the floor. Then a 90 minute walk.

Keep going everyone!

(But not you @JTbo, you go and lie  down!

Hey there, Columbine! Good to "see" you again! Welcome back! Collie is gorgeous!

JTbo, are you behaving yourself??

Good work everyone!

2 miles on the treadmill this morning. Still at 1% incline and up to 3.8 mph.....need to get that incline back up.

I have PT in an hour or so. Tonight is a slow exercise night as I will just do a few crunches (I have always enjoyed doing crunches.....you'd think my stomach would cooperate, but it doesn't....still poofy.
) and then my PT stretches.

I do understand where you're coming from. I'm in kind of the same boat, although it's not my foot, it's my butt.  But I'm so used to walking 6-8 miles a day and now I'm down to 1-2 miles. And it sucks. I'm on a lower incline and at a slower speed. And that sucks, too. I keep hitting the treadmill frame because I'm used to taking longer strides and walking faster than I can right now, so I have to keep moving further along the belt.

It's not a good thing to have to deal this way. But look.....if you don't do it now, you could really be a world of hurt later on and then it might take even longer to completely heal. Believe me, I get it. But just take it easy and deal with it now. You'll be better in the long run.

My
 for the day!

Ah...but Ran Maru is a stallion and is supposed to have a big crest (hormones, ya know ;) ). Mares aren't meant to have thick cresty, necks - Collie's is just pure fat! :slant: :disa:

Collie's having a day off today, and I'm having a slower day (my body is NOT happy about the mucking out I've been doing  ). Going to do 60-90mins of yoga later, depending on my strength and energy levels.

Keep resting that foot jtbo jtbo - that's a seriously nasty injury :cringe: Sending you lots of healing :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

My therapist released me. At this point, he is hoping that, as I continue to do the stretching, walking should become easier and the pain should dissipate as that muscle loosens. He said it may take a while for the pain to completely go away, but he thinks it will.

So....I am to continue at 1% incline, but can adjust speed and endurance as I see fit. He suggests that if I want to walk twice a day, I should work myself up to about 4 mph (2 on the treadmill, 2 at lunch) and let it go at 4 miles a day for a while....he says there's no shame in even walking only 3 miles for a while. I am to continue stretching and he also thinks I should continue with the dumbbell work as well as it can only help overall. My stretches should still be done twice a day and the dumbbell/Bowflex stuff 3-4 times a week....no more than that. Otherwise it gets to be too much.

Once I get to 4 miles a day and feel fairly well, then I can start playing with the treadmill incline again, but I am to take it s-l-o-w-l-y. And he stressed that. He thinks I'm still getting a good workout, even at 1% incline, even though it's not what I'm used to doing. He thinks I have a fairly long stride and that's not helping.

I guess I'm doing the dumbbell/Bowflex thing now for the long haul. As long as I can walk, I'll be OK with that. I still have the pain, but it's not nearly as bad as it was. And the longer I walk, the better the area feels overall. I'm hoping that, eventually, this whole thing will be done.

If I have any trouble at all, I am to immediately call my doctor and set up more PT sessions. But really, I'm doing pretty much what they expect me to do.

The stretches to loosen that muscle: Each is done only 1 set, twice a day, every day

3 different stretches while on my back: 25 times each stretch, holding for 3 seconds

1 stretch on my right side (to work on the left side): 25 times

2 stretches while on my back with a band around my knees: 25 times each

2 stretches on my stomach: 25 times, holding for 3 seconds

Lunges: 20 times each leg (Need to be careful with the lunges as I can feel that in my lower back)

Squats: 20 times (He said I could hold onto the bar and was very surprised that I didn't have to hold on to anything. But then I told him that I was already doing the squats while holding a 10-pound weight between my legs.)

On the nights that I work out, I have to work these exercises in with my other dumbbell exercises that I do. It takes a while.

Great news that you've finally been released from PT Winchester Winchester

I have lower back issues too - I find that if I really consciously engage my core and stomach muscles whilst doing lunges it really helps protect my lower back ;)

I really hope the healing continues quickly, and that you're pain free very soon :vibes:
