Another half hour or so and we'll be heading over to the vet for Sugar's appt! I'm a little nervous, I don't think it's anything huge but still. After everything we've gone through the last few months... yeah, I'm nervous. Putting off vaccinations and any lab work until after her insurance kicks in. Thankfully, she got her rabies shot on 5/28 last year, and her insurance kicks in on 5/22, so we won't have any period of her being "illegal".

I was considering taking her over to Vetco or Tractor Supply for the vaccinations, since they are so much cheaper there. But I'm a bit paranoid about that whole canine flu thing, which has gone around here.

Good luck at the vet with Sugar Booger (I've called my daughter that as a nickname since she was itty bitty!). Hope it's not a big deal. Let us know as soon as you can!

I helped my daughter in law weed, and replant her flower bed this morning. When she first planted it a couple of years ago, she placed weed barrier on top. It was rediculously stupid. The grass grew right through it and the roots were ingrained in it. We couldn't pull them or dig it up. Took 4 hours to get grass out of a 3X4 foot space. I've never used weed barrier and never, ever will. It was horrible.

@Donutte  I hope all goes well with Sugar at the vet appointment.   We all worry when we take them along, it's only natural.

Oh boy @Rhondalee  you just brought some really fun, hard labour memories back for me.   I rented an allotment with a friend a good few years back.  It was huge.  There was a really long waiting list for allotment plots and we only got it because it was so badly overgrown and no one else wanted it - we should have known....  and that was before the worst information became aparent.
It was a mass of hog weed, couch grass, horse tail, creeping dandilion and any number of other evil perennial weeds.   When we started to try and clear them all so as to get a few vegetables planted we made the horrible discovery that the previous 'keeper' had attmepted to manage the weeds by covering the entire plot with carpet.   You might think 'great', this is a well known organic gardening trick and what was our problem?   They hadn't looked in to the details of this technique and had used 100% synthetic carpet.   Not only had the carpet not decomposed in any way, it had been flooded over by a neighbouring little river and been covered in silt so that there was a whole new layer of 'soil' and weed growth on the top of it.

We did get it clear but only with help from my brother, some serious sweat, and several weeks of hard labour.

We had to laugh about it, it was too extreme not to.

That sounds like fun.  When my oldest went to his first year at Univ MN, my sister and I dropped him off and stayed at a hotel and shopped at the Mall of America.  We got lost a couple times.
I went there in 2001 with my mom.  Oh, my aching back and feet!  It's at least a two day job to get through that mall properly.  We ended up renting a wheelchair and taking turns riding in it and leaning on it.

Miss Sugar Booger has an infected anal gland, and possibly an abscess. They gave antibiotics and anti-inflammatories, as well as gave her little bottom a laser treatment. The vet gave her a regular exam as well, and she tried to bite his face off when he tried to examine her ears, so the poor thing had to be in a muzzle for half the visit. Have to go back in 10-14 days to have it checked out again. They were not able to express the glands because it was very painful for her, and she was already ready to snap. They clipped her in the back (I meant to ask what they meant, as I'm not really sure), however.

She also has to wear the cone of shame. She's been giving me the evil eye ever since then.

@Donutte   Poor pup!  Hope she is better soon!

SO...I got on Ancestry today, and stumbled across my paternal grandmother's birth certificate!  Well...delayed certificate.  This is absolutely wonderful, because Dad passed away years ago, we don't have contact with his side of the family (Mom was all about her family), and I didn't know her DOB, POB, or the correct spelling of her middle name!  Now that I'm sure, researching other stuff will be so much easier!

So glad Sugar is better, Donutte. That situation must be very painful for her.

@Mamanyt1953 Neither of my parents had birth certificates! They were born before they were issued. Mother had a replacement certificate, and Dad never had one because he was born in Indian Territory!

Both lawnmowers are broken (one came from a yard sale for ten dollars, so I guess we can't complain too much) and there's a dandelion/milkweed patch in the backyard (actually, it looks more like a small forest) that we've been a little worried about (because anything  could be in it) so AWM borrowed a weedeater that isn't working quite right so I got down on the ground with a pair of clippers trying to make a dent in the mess.
I made a huge dent, but there's so much there it doesn't look like I've made any progress at all...

Poor Sugar! So glad you went today though. I'll bet she starts feeling much better in a day or two once all the meds kick in.

When they said they clipped her, I'm thinking they meant they shaved a bit of fur off back there in order to treat her.

You can give her a break from the cone if she'll lay quietly with you and not try to lick her bum.

I hope she feels better soon!

Thank you, gave her the meds today. Tried giving the antibiotic in food, ended up sucking the food juice into the syringe and giving it to her that way. So think I'll just syringe the meds after that. The anti-inflammatory is a pill, so stuck that in some cheese. She was quite happy with that. Thankfully the evil eye has gone away and she's back to happily barking at the world as it goes by.

Oh Wow. Guess I should stop whining. If I had to do that, I would have put the shovel in her hand and said, "have fun"! It's crazy some of the things people do. I've probably done something in a past house that made people shake their heads. Lol.

I'm guessing almost all of us have done something!   The carpet was funny, we used to tell everyone we were the only people to have an allotment with fence to fence carpeting.
Like it was desirable or something.   Believe me - it's not.

Oh, poor little Sugar @Donutte, she must have been in a lot of pain.   Poor vet too, but then they probably hurt her a lot having to look at her little bottom so no wonder she didn't want them going near her ears after that.   I'm glad she isn't giving you the evil eye anymore, it is always so upsetting when you get that 'you betrayed me' look.   Fingers crossed she will be able to loose the cone of shame very soon - though she does look pretty cute in it.

Can't believe we still haven't reached 1000 posts yet, and now I have to go to bed so worried I might miss the big event.   Keep babbling though everyone, it's great to read what everyone is up to.

I know the Handsome Kitty (Eclipse) wants to go outside, it is so nice out today, but I am so totally a slug.  Guess I'll get off the computer and make his day.  We go out at least once a day.  Yesterday he just wanted to sit on the back fence and enjoy the breeze - until someone walked down the sidewalk on the other side of the wall.  Such a scardy cat.

She seems pretty used to the cone by now, thank goodness. No giving me that "Pleeeease take it off" look and whine. And I'm glad the medicating is done for the evening. I still need to pill Maple, but I do that when they are fed now, and put her Prozac in some food. Soooo much easier than having her eat the pill pocket then drop the pill. Over and over again.

So glad it's Friday. No, I am just wishing that. I really am. I took today off but so not in the mood to go back to work yet. Worst part, I think I'm getting a cold now. I thought it might be just allergies, but no, I think it's a cold. Plus I've noticed a bunch of other sick people around me, including some of the folks at the vet's office. And last night my chest was feeling heavy, to the point my dreams were even about that!!! So weird.

I've got to say that (back when we had dogs) we never had to give them a cone. Of course, they had allergies out the wazoo ( we used to joke that Merlin was allergic to breathing), but they never needed cones. Wow. I'm glad your puppy is feeling better.

I must say that I have never understood the appeal of small dogs. I always had larger dogs though so I've never had enough experience with them.

We've always had medium (lab-sized) dogs. (I say medium, because my Great-Aunt bred African Ridgebacks, and compared to those labs are  a medium sized dog.) I remember the first time I saw a little dog I thought it was a robotic toy. (It didn't help that it looked like a Puppy Surprise.
) I almost hurt the thing looking for the "off" switch.

Oh my. That is terrible! My dad's roommate has a little chihuahua. She is the most needy little dog. I prefer my dogs the way that I like my cats - independent.

I am with you on this. It's cool if other people like them and stuff but I myself find them to be very annoying. But that may be because my 90 year old neighbor is an animal hoarder and has 3 dachshunds, 4 pomeranians, 2 miniature poodles, 2 corgis, and 3 shih tzus. None of them are trained and they bark incessantly whenever I walk out into MY yard. I can't even enjoy sitting out on the patio because my neighbor's dogs will just stand at the edge of the fence and bark at me literally for hours, until I go inside. My neighbor is so old that he can barely walk so the dogs don't get exercise, they just run around the yard and yap constantly.
