Agree also, the e-collar and the antibiotics are not standard, your vet is super conservative, but honestly, I know I shouldn't go against his advice but if you want you can hold off on the antibiotics, as long as her incision heals up well, but if it ever looks redder/inflammed and feels hot or has pus I would start them right away then.

She will want to clean her incision to get the vet smells off of her body too, so cleaning herself is fine, so long as she doesn't hyperfocus on this and/or chews.

It takes a couple days for the groggy feeling to fade. Adult cats come back pretty zoned out where as the kittens are mostly ready to play again, maybe a bit slower but.......

She will be hidey too for a bit, normal behavior.

I wouldn't give her dry food until tmrw.

Water is good and small amts of canned at a time is best.

Sometimes cats will get nausea from the med, so trying 1/4 can to start, wait an hour and if all is good then give her as much as she wants.

You can try mixing the antibiotic w/ baby food.  Make sure it is just the turkey or chicken in gravy, no spices added.  Tuna juice is also ok.  If she doesn't eat it, you'll need to syringe it into her, so use small amounts.
Hi ;)Thank you. I am not able to get near her she is mad at me for taking her and I feel so bad. There's no way I can syringe. She is eating now hard food and water and treats. The soft food I put I tried canned cat and kitten soft food. I broiled chicken and cut in small pieces and put the liquid antibiotics on it. And also I opened a can of tuna in water not oil she did lick and eat majority with the antibiotics her second dose she didn't want the tuna fish with medicine, and she licked a little of the one with the soft food fancy feast. But for some reason before her pregnancy she has always had a small appetite during pregnancy and nursing she was great eating a few kittens cans a day and hard food double treats. I will try the baby food. The vet did say when I called that she was given a pain reliever shot and antibiotics shot. And the extra antibiotics is to make sure. :rbheart: ps happy holidays merry Xmas :)

Eh, you should be able to grasp her by the scruff and squeeze it into her mouth. If not, as Handsome Kitty said, mix it into her food. My cats have never had an antibiotic post- surgery, so your vet is ultra-conservative. If some is wasted, it won't matter, it's being given as a precaution.

She will probably sleep a lot the next couple of days. If she seems anti-social or meows, she's in pain. As I said before, no shot lasts longer than 24 hours.

I don't know why vets want clients to believe cats do not need pain meds. All they have to do is give you about 6 pre-filled syringes so the cat gets measured dosages 2x a day for 3 days. I've always insisted, and it works just fine.

See how Simba is tomorrow, and please follow your own instincts.

Hi since her surgery Tuesday she has been very scared and distant to me which has broken my heart. I know she is mad at me for taking her. She was hiding the first 2 days and still today but just today hopped on my bed and laid with me and I pet her. She fell asleep in my hands. But she is still very nervous like she feels she is going back. The first day I tried to check on her but at night she was alert and awake but not near me. I feel like she blames me and I feel so bad. I been mixing in different types of food. Tuna cans , cooked chicken, and fancy feast cans, she is eating hard stuff more but has licked and nibbled on food and today some treats water and bathroom is good, she was playing a little with her favorite ribbon but she is quite dramatized. I hope she will forgive me. I try my best. I understand it is dramatizing. I am going to try and see how the wound is and take a picture and post it with the dissolvable stitches. It is not open the wound or bleeding. She cried looking at me in my eyes the first night only when I was checking on her as to say she was mad. But then she walked away. And hid. Today she is more affectionate. No meowing or crying.

I totally agree all animals feel pain. I offered to pay and asked a few times but right now she is doing good. I am so proud of her. She is really a trooper and a strong cat. She is small and very tiny and skinny. Also on both sides are sunken in is that because the ovaries were big? That concerned me because she came back so sunken on both sides. I want her to gain weight. I've never seen a cat or dog I've had pass up fresh fish or tuna or cooked chicken. She' just likes the kitten hard food. As long as she is healthy and eating but I would love for her to put ok weight.

Merry Christmas Happy Holidays

Thank you so much

Part fo her avoiding you is probably pains...  But if you do believe she is now scared of you, there are tricks for it.   Feliway diffuser of Feliway spray.  There are also other preparates, it depends on what they have at your local well sorted pet shop.  Dr Bachs rescue remedy, or similiar preparate, is also useful.   Relaxing music may help some.  Classical harp music is best, but almost any may work.

Also talk a lot with her, making friendly noises.   Alike an friendly courting tom would do.  Dominant unfriendly toms just takes what they want, if necessary beating up before. The friendly ones are always courting pleasantly, and making their move first when they see she is ready and willing.

So that language of friendly sounds  is wellknown to cats,  female, but in fact also the males.

Goat milk is always a good nourishment.  If you can get raw goat milk, fresh or frozen, is best, but almost any brand, bottled, canned, powdered, will do.

You can add raw yolk of an egg too. Lotsa of nourishments and easy to digest.   IF you have problems with salomonella in eggs et your place, you can boil this egg.  Not as easily digestable, but still good.  Boiled egg white are alos good.

Hi I totally agree with you. He told me 2 weeks with e collar. There was no way Simba with her anxiety and nervousness could withstand even a day. I really come to you and this website because the knowledge is amazing you all have.
Today was a little better I think it will take time. She is eating hrs food. I do put the antibiotics in the soft food today she licked it alittle and ate. So telecast some medication is getting in her system. I till haven't been able to get so near her like I ways am. I know this was hard for her mentally and physically. She did let me pet her today but she's still scared and runs away and hides maybe thinking I will take her back.

I will take a picture and post of the incision from what i saw it was quite big for such a tiny lil Simba. No bleeding and she is not licking overboard.

Also for future reference I leave out food 24 hours and water naturally and then I always give soft food as much as she wants the vet tech said I should give Simba access to 24/7 food but that's always what i have done for every animal even my ferals outside always have a huge bowl I fill up ll they the day is that ok she has access and can eat whenever she wants. I was just wondering because he made it same like that was wrong.

Hoping I can see more closely the incision and make sure everything is okay.

Happy holidays Merry Christmas

Thank you so much always

hello thank you so much those are great tips. She today is doing better. She's been very alert but more nervous and anxiety which she has always unfortunately suffered from. This is a big shock for her. She is eating. I will get goats milk. I do have left over kmr powder or can buy new one for her but she didn't seem to like it during nursing so I kept her on the kitten hard and kitten soft food. Now she is still eating kittens hard and I mix it with adult hard she likes also. She has always been a picky eater. She has her soft food fancy feast. I've tried a few other brands but she doesn't really like soft food. I still offer it to her everyday and that's where I been putting the antibiotics in. Even turning down cooked chicken or turkey. I do have the diffuser from feliway and I've kept it quiet because she has been resting. I can put a musical on tv or a movie that's fun to listen to. Hopefully today she will be better. I think she is worried I will bring her back to the vet. I understand what she is going through and feel so bad. I been talking with her and it's a sweet calm voice she fell asleep me petting her. But slight noises not even loud like me going to the bathroom she always follows me inside and she hasn't she is staying on some blankets in a dim lite area. I will keep you posted. Thank you for the grey advice will search for goat milk. Happy holidays :rbheart:

Simba has been avoiding you because she has not felt well. As she begins to feel better she will forget about the surgery and the pain and become friendly again, which she is already doing by getting on the bed with you! Try not to feel badly as she really needed to be spayed. You are taking great care of her. Most cats sleep a lot and hide after surgery. It's normal.

As we mentioned, the oral antibiotics are extra, and if she won't take them, she will be okay. It sounds as though her incision is healing nicely with no infection. I'm sure as soon as she feels like herself again she will begin eating lots of her favorite foods every day! :)

Happy Holidays to you!

As others have said she is going to be a bit standoff-ish for now, but will resume normalcy soon enough.

It's the same way when you have a cat to medicate, they start avoiding you as they suspect you are going to force them to do something they do not want.

It fades, as she heals she will forgive and forget.

I wouldn't worry about the incision, it's fine. They very rarely have any issues with infection, etc. Probably 98 out of 100 heal up perfectly, the other 2% require re-stitching and/or antibiotics.

Personally I see no problem leaving food out all the time. If she were overweight it would be a different story but she is not, and you also offer her canned as she wants it too, so it's not a problem, you're doing just fine!

I have to say, this was the best feel-good thing I could have spent my time reading on Christmas. Nicole, you were such a good mama to your cat and her kittens, making sure they all not only survived, but thrived. That is amazing.

It made me think about so many things. Having taken my little boys from their mama when they were only 8 weeks old. Situation was a bit different though, they were all strays and they would have gone to animal control otherwise. But I'm happy to say all five babies and the mama have happy homes :) I'm also glad when I found out there were babies needing a home, that I took both of the last two that were left. I couldn't bring myself to leave one all by himself, so I took both babies. Now my little guys are 7 months old and quite happy, and I can't imagine not having both of them. They are so close with each other.

I also have a kitty I adopted a few weeks ago that I had to get spayed the day after your kitty was, ironically enough. No e-collar, in fact they recommended against it, and said if needed could use a belly band. No antibiotics either, that was kinda odd to hear they wanted Simba to have them! I also had to ask about pain meds, I think the main reason I got them was because the holidays were coming and they (the vet where she was spayed) wouldn't be readily available for several days.

Anyway, just wanted to say it was so nice reading this thread. I thought I'd read the first page but I was hooked, it was like reading an intense book! Couldn't put it down! I'm currently watching all my babies play with their new toys from today. Penelopy (my girl that was spayed) successfully caught the little ball hanging in the one toy, she's so happy right now. The kittens are all over the place, and my two 13 year olds are watching them.

Also wanted to say I've been sorry to read about your health problems, and hope everything is ok!

Merry Christmas, and have a happy new year :) I'm sure you have a lot more story in your book of life than you realized you would have for 2015 :)

Happy New Year to you! Yes she is fully recovered and more affectionate then ever. She does still have a small disolvable stitch. I don't know how long it takes to fully fall out.
Thank you for explaining the process. You have been the best to me and Simba.

I did get a call from the family that has the 2 orange boys and she told me they have been very insane. I keep track still with everyone. And get updates. She said that they had knocked the xmas tree over 3 times and they get into the cabinets in kitchens to get food. From what I know and learned I told her that they are boys and very young still. They are also very smart. They need to have constant toys to keep them entertained. She said they are out of control. I also mentioned that when they are fixed they will calm down. I want her to know that if she can't handle them I will take them back and keep them. I always wanted to keep one kitten for simba but I thought a double adoption since those were the last 2 kittens and she wanted two it would be good for them to be together. Don you have any advice? Since she said at night they are out of control I said try feeding them right before bed because after being feed they get sleepy. I also said water and hard food should be left out always and treats given. I have an extra cat tree simba now loves the bigger ones and doesn't like the smaller one so I offered it to her. I would like to visit the kittens I called and left a message for her. If you know of anything more to tell her please let me know. I want her to know I will take them both back and not to bring to shelter or give away because it's not working out. The grey other orange and black kitten are all doing amazing with other animals in the house. It's such a joy to know they are all great.

Thank you so much ♡

Hi happy new year! Glad to report Simba is doing great. Even more affectionate. Thank you so much for everything truly. Right now all the kittens are doing grea I keep in touch and recieve updates. I did speak with the family who took the 2 orange and she said the two boy kittens are behaving badly and acting out of control. Any advice or suggestions. I also went into more detail above in previous post. I mentioned a few things for her to do. My concern is I don't want her to give them away I will take them back and keep them. I am a little worried but praying the kittens will be okay. She has had 2 cats prior that were brother and sister and last 18 and 19 yrs old. NoNE of the other adopters have anything bad to report then everything is great and I get kitten updates. Please when you can let me know. Thank you so much ♡

Hello Happy New Year. Omg I am so touched that you took the time to read and write such a wonderful message to me. Thank you so much. You are amazing and God bless you and those beautoful kittens. I am sorry I didn't reply sooner I am still having health problems so my energy is limited and wasn't able to come on here. I loved hearing about your kittens and you did the right thing. That is so wonderful you kept 2. And that is such a coinincidence simba and your kitry had their surgery around the same time. Simba is doing great. I did feel guilty that I didn't keep one kitten but the last 2 orange boys that were left to be adopted the family had wanted two and as selfish as I wanted to be to keep one I knew they would benefit with each other. I still get updates and pics of all of them. I am actually visiting the black kitten when I feel better which was the last to go and she is doing absolutely amazing. Right now dealing with the 2 orange kittens the family said they are out of control. I had all 5 with Simba and they were never out of control they were happy and playful. So I'm wondering what is going on. If she doesn't want them I will take them back no questions asked and keep them. I am in limited space right now but my situation will hopefully change this year. I also was walking simba in backyard 2 times a day. Now she doesn't even want to go out its also cold out we live in new York. I havw 5 ferals I am trying to get the one who is less scared inside for this winter. I have a diy shelter and their food station is covered and the water bowl I ordered from chewy.com is heated so that should help. It breaks my heart for outdoor animals. I am trying my best. I hope this new year gives you wonderful blessings. I am so grateful for the support from you. This website saved me. I did this by myself with no help and health issues. Please keep me posted and thank you again for your wonderful post. ♡♡♡♡♡

Perhaps you should take the two male orange kittens back. They need to be neutered ASAP as well. Kittens in general are very playful, energetic, and active, but males can begin to display aggressive behavior when their testosterone comes in, especially when they have not been neutered.

I have 3 male kittens (and one female) from the same litter who are now ten months old. They were neutered at 12 weeks, and still live with their mom too. All are very sweet, and none of them are out of control in any way, or ever have been.

I am concerned for the orange kittens' overall welfare when you say the new owner tells you they are being bad and out of control. Can you look into this right away and offer to take them back? The owner sounds like he or she is giving big hints that she is not happy with the kittens, but does not want to come right out and say so. It sounds like you need to take them back.

So glad Simba is doing well! Please let us know more about the orange kittens soon!

Hi I just spoke to her for 2 hours on phone. She was very sweet and says her family loves them so much. I told her I would take them back and she said no that she loves them and that they are very adorable. She explained that they sleep during the day all day and at night around 10pm come alive and run around. She doesn't hear them but it wakes up her mom and mother in law. I told her I will drop off the cat tree I have and the toy that they say is good for kittens during the night it has the bowl enclosed and keeps them busy. I won't be able to drop it off till 2 weeks because of my health. I told her she can come over. I explained she needs to get them fixed asap. I am referring her to simba's vet and I think next month she is doing it. I mentioned with no questions asks that I will take them back. She said they are family and she and her family love them. She just wants to know what she can do so they can sleep more at night. She did take my advice and gives wet food at night before bed. She said they have amazing appetites they have their hard food and water and then they eat wet food 3 times a day. And they have treats.

She is having a problem with the small orange and I told her I would ask my cat friends fot advice on here soplease help me with this. The small orange is every few days going to relieve himself poop in the tub in the bathroom. She said the litter box can be clean and he will go. The other kitten doesn't follow thankfully. This has been recent when she took them home he never used the tub as a toilet it's not urine but poop. I never heard of this so please if you can give me advice I'd appreciaite it to tell her. She assured me she loves them very much and won't be giving them away. But she does need help with the one kitten relieving himself every few days randomly in the tub. I asked if she is using the same brand of litter I had given her that they used here and she said yes.

Thank you so much.

It sounds like that kitten is acting out by using the tub. At least it's in the tub, which makes for an easy cleanup.

Overall, I think the kittens need to be played with more using interactive toys like "Da Bird". If they get one half-hour session in the morning and another half-hour session in the evening before bedtime it will help a lot. They are five months old now and need to burn off lots of energy.

The idea to feed them before bedtime was a good idea too. Hiding treats in treat balls will give them something to do at night as well. It would be great if the new owner would come to pick up the toys you have offered her.

My other suggestion would be to put an extra litterbox in the bathroom where he likes to go, or at least right outside the door. Perhaps he will use that instead of the tub.

My boys are almost 8 months old - I still hear things go boom in the night :) I've gotten to the point where I realize, "Oh, it's just the cat knocking things over again" and go back to sleep :lol3:

Hi, hoping you are feeling somewhat better at least!

First off it strikes me that a pair of spunky kittens is the opposite of what they have been used to for many, many years now, 18 and 19 vs 3-4 month old boys?!

Yeah, that's probably a big part of it.

Secondly, not sure if you want to suggest this to her or not, but to teach kittens that night time is sleeping time, they can be contained during the night. A large kennel with a sheet covering it is ideal.

This gets their day/night set in place, just a suggestion but you might not feel okay about telling her this.

I suggest she put a litter box right in the tub where he is pooping at first, then right outside the tub, and so on, reminding that she only wants the box to be used and nothing else.

Third is they should be neutered soon.

Hi thank you for the Information. I wrote back and told her everything you said. I did give her 2 toys like Dabird and 2 treat balls. She said she changed their hard food to adult but those 2 loved the kitten hard food. The soft can food she gives them is for adult also. I told her to get a bag of the kitten hard chow that they had with me. I wasn't aware she changed their hard food and stopped giving them the soft food for kittens. I gave them a very big package as you know the only thing I did not give was the green blue toy with enclosed ball they said its good for night activity. I gave her the Orange with scratcher and ball. One thing I asked her to get is that toy because at night it kept all the kittens busy. She did not. I will go buy it when I can.

The litter box is in the bathroom and he goes every few days in tub. I told her about the second litter box In tub. I was thinking if there is 1 bathroom for a family then maybe it is not the best place to put a litter box with so much interaction and in and out. And when family is showering then they can't get to their litter box. Also not all cats like to share litter box I know this first hand so I've always gotten separate ones. You are right he is acting out.

Any other advice you think I am waiting to hear back from her.
:heart3:

My boys are almost 8 months old - I still hear things go boom in the night :) I've gotten to the point where I realize, "Oh, it's just the cat knocking things over again" and go back to sleep :lol3:

Awwww they are so precious. I know I still hear things also. Simba loves to knock things over so I've had to take everything off my night table.,she's done this since she was a kitten. She's broken glass but I am worried for her I just clean up everything. She loves watching the gravity. ;)
