today was plenty busy enough here! among the things i did today were:  laundry, house cleaning, the usual things (ie, dishes, scooping litter boxes, trash out, and newspapers in), took the trash cans and recycling to the curb -- ready for wednesday morning pick up, talked with our vet -- snick has started some slight dribbling of urine (just once so far, always her first sign of a UTI) and we have a 'plan of action' going forward for this week, set up a new bag of fluids for snick's sub-q's, and paid my mortgage for this month.

i did not mow my lawn today. i was pleased to see that the rain we've been getting, though not as much as we really need, has kept my lawn from becoming more brownish than it was the last time i mowed. i'll check the lawn again on thursday, to see if it looks like it could use mowing. while the grass isn't growing much if any right now, the weeds seem to be growing but at a slower rate.

Winchester, I think that is the same thing that happened to me. If it is, it is a setting on the iPhone. It happened when I updated things. It also happened to a friend of mine. It is an easy fix. I forget what I did. I have to get going now. Later, I will try to look at my setting and see what I did or have. My laptop is synced with my phone, so I can check later. I actually had to change modems, yesterday from Comcast. it was a pain. They sent insrunctions for an initial set up of the internet and not for just switching out a modem!! UGUGGUGUGUHHHH!

I was furious!

After an hour and a half of getting it set up physically; I had to get a wrench because they tightened it so tight at the original installation; it was easy to plug in. I was so grateful my superintendent was home. I had to ask him to loosen it for me. I do not have the strength nor can I put my arm in the position required to loosen the connections---wall and splitter....

The internet was not working at all!! I followed the directions, several times, trying different combinations, to no avail. The instructions said to type in the modem name and password on the side. Well, that is for initial set up!!!!!!!!

For an exiting customer, it turns out, all I had to do was switch out the modem and call the company to activate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the third phone call attempt, yes, three!! I finally got someone to help me. The voice mail system did not understand me!! I speak english!! and the first customer service person said I was in the wrong call section!!!! I was livid. I had to call back, and boy was my temper flowing!! she switched me over and after 5 minutes on hold, my call got dropped!!! livid!!!!

I called back, yelled and said that If I cannot set this thing up, I am getting a tech out here and I am not paying for that service call!!!!

Thank goodness she was able to activate it from there. I had set it up correctly, but the instructions were not applicable for existing customers!!!

I absolutely hate dealing with Comcast.

Then the airport express (wireless) had to be re-set!! and I mistakenly renamed my network!! So I have to deal with that on my iPhone

I know yours is an easy fix. If you have time, go onto the MacRumors website forum. They are great.. Just use the search function.

This is probably too late in getting to you, since it is noon-time now; but I will check back later...

good luck...
Thanks for the info....I told my BIL to try the MacRumors website for information. It's my SIL's iPhone that is having the problem. The store guy didn't help us at all. He did say that she had me on a Do Not Disturb list, but when he removed me from the list, that still didn't work. Sounds like you had your job cut out for you yesterday; glad you were able to get it all straightened-out!

I am working on a bad headache, but came to work this morning. If it's not any better til I get home tonight, I may just go to bed after dinner. We had a bad night last night with t-storms rolling through. Not a lot of rain, but a lot of noise and flashing. Molli and Muffin went at it twice during the night; both times it was nasty. Whenever Muffin does something--anything--Molli has to be "right there" to be nosy. She actually jumped down off the bed to follow Muffin around in the night. And then it hits the fan because Muffin got tired of being followed around all the time. Then Molli tried to come back to bed and Muffin started snorting and growling at her because Molli tried to come into what Muffin considered her territory. She chased Molli through the bedroom. At 2:00 this morning. Then again around 3:30. A very rude awakening. The first time we were not amused; the second time Rick was ready to start smacking both of them around (no, he didn't....he wouldn't. But it's darn aggravating to be constantly dealing with those two idiots). In September it will be three years that Muffin came to live with us. For crying out loud, they need to get over themselves. It's disgusting. And we're tired of both of them. Enough already; they hate each other....we get it. We just don't care about it anymore. The other night they went at it and I just rolled over in bed. I'm so tired of their crap.
  • My sister is coming over tonight and we're going to start painting the bedroom.

-Taught one of my favorite classes, 7 funny fifth grade boys!

-Went for a run...finally after a week of vacation it felt good and nice to complete another mission on my Zombies Run app (the only thing that keeps me motivated to keep running!)

-I need to find my cats toy mouse! He always hides it, but if we don't play fetch with him before bed he keeps us up wanting to play at the most inconvenient times...

  • brought the trash cans back from the curb (trash pick up was this morning), and talked with a neighbor for a while, then brought in the newspapers
  • gave both cats their breakfast, then made my breakfast
  • called my mom, our weekly chat
  • gave snick her sub-q's -- well, about half her dose for today, as she vomited up a hairball during the fluids. i was able to get her unhooked up and on the kitchen floor before she harfed up the hairball. after that i wasn't going to 'push' snick with doing another stick and more fluids today. she'll be given more fluids tomorrow.
  • made a batch of beef and veggie barley soup -- turned out very nice!
  • while the soup was simmering, i nuked the last serving of pork fried rice for my lunch
  • washed the dishes, scooped litter boxes, and took out the trash
  • ran a full scan with kaspersky on my computer
  • wrote up my 'to do' list for tomorrows busy day

Rick has a bowling meeting tonight, so while he's gone....
  • I need to vacuum the pool (Although our water level is getting a little low; we've been trying to add a bit of water to the pool. For most of the summer, we've gotten away with not adding water, but that has changed.)
  • Go up to the garden to see what needs to be picked (I did another sheet of roasted tomatoes for the freezer last night). I'm thinking there might be a few tomatoes up there, maybe some peppers, and probably some  zucchini/squash. At this point, the butternuts have taken over the garden....we now have them growing in slings on the fence.
  • Search through my canning jars for quart jars. We bought 1-1/2 bushels of peaches at the market yesterday so I can can peaches for Rick to put in his lunch. The peaches I did last year were a big success, so I'm willing to do more. I want to get my jars and lids in order, so I can start right in canning peaches on Saturday morning. (RedHaven peaches should still be available next week, so I'll go back for another 1-1/2 bushels; those will be for peach pies and peach dumplings.)
And I think that will be it for tonight.

among the things i did today (one of my busy days) -- gave snick her sub-q's, tried twice (so far) to collect a urine sample from snick (my goal is to get one by saturday morning, vet said to get when i could between now and saturday), got things prepped to throw together a potato salad quickly tomorrow, did some reorganizing in the house today, washed dishes/scooped litter boxes/took trash out/brought in newspapers, post office -- got the mail, vacuumed the house. the big and very nice surprise for me is that i got everything done and was out of the shower by just before 6pm.

  • Must run a few errands tonight. Banking, Lowes (for paint), etc.
  • Rick is going to sand down the last bedroom wall tonight. There were a few holes from drapes and such that needed to be patched and now sanded. He intends to finish the wall painting tomorrow morning. We're hoping we have enough paint left; it will be close. (Still have to decide on a complementary color and still have to buy paint for the ceiling.)
  • I found enough ripe tomatoes last night to roast another small pan tonight
  • Didn't have enough time to scoop the boxes this morning, so will have to do an extra-good job of scooping tonight

Got up late.
Had my orange juice.
Put 2 saucepans of water on to boil. One large and one normal size.
Sliced a ton of mushrooms, fried them in a ton of butter. Salted, peppered and nutmegged it. Added a lot of cream. Then I had to salt and salt and salt it etc. I couldn't get it right.
While I was in the middle of the Alfredo, the water in the saucepans boiled so I put in the spaghetti. Has anybody ever burnt spaghetti? I hope yes. Some was burnt at the bottom of the big saucepan. Those bits were thrown.
I washed the spaghetti. I like to get rid of the starch and I hate sticky pasta.
Later, when the family came, I 'heated' up the pasta!!!! But I didn't just heat it. I boiled it and it was soooo soft it made me feel bad. And everything didn't have enough salt.
But everybody enjoyed the meal and my daughter, who brought the meat sauce, took a load of Alfredo home for one of her sons who wasn't well and her husband.
Then they all left after 11pm and that's that for another two weeks. We're 13 not counting the baby.
It's very nerve wracking.

Rick will be working in the bedroom today. While he's working, I will be....
  • Canning peaches this morning.
  • Doing a quick vacuum about the kitchen and living room
  • Cleaning the kitchen (wipe down countertops, clean out the fridge, wash the kitchen floor, etc.). Canning is a messy job, no matter how much I try to be neat, I end up making a mess.

Since I didn't get anything else done other than peaches yesterday, I need to clean this messy house today. There will be no lawn mowing; our grass has stopped growing as we haven't had much in the way of rain.
  • Vacuum and dust
  • Change the bed sheets and do the laundry
  • Clean the bathroom and scoop the boxes
  • I need to do some straightening-up  back here in the computer room. Everything from the bedroom ended up here and it's annoying.
  • We are taking care of my sister's furry clan while they're away for the weekend. So I will go over there twice today to feed her furkids and scoop their boxes. I like to just spend time with the kids, too. So Rick and I will just sit there for a while and cuddle with the kids. They like having some attention while their mom and dad are gone. (Of course, then when we come back home from being over there, Mollipop has to sniff me like she's never sniffed before. And then she meows: "Mom! Strange kitty smell! You're cheating again!"

  • Back to work today. I have a Planning Commission meeting tonight, but my part shouldn't take long. I only need to request a time extension for a client. That will take me all of ten minutes.
  • Go for a few groceries. A new grocery store opened here in town and I'm excited to check out the aisles. There's something so satisfying about being a new grocery store.
When one of my GFs lived in NY and I would visit with her for a weekend, we would always check out grocery stores esp the new ones. We could spend a few hours there. And I would always come away with something that I really "needed"!
And I think that will be it. I had a terrible time trying to sleep last night. The bedroom is in disarray and the cats are doing a lot of inspecting and perusing new nooks and crannies throughout the room. Lots of noises at night. The cat napper is not at the window because of painting and Mollipop is not amused; she has done a lot of meowing to let us know that she's peeved. And Molli and Muffin went at it three times last night; those two will never figure out how to get along. One would try to hop into bed and the other would already be in bed and would go after the one trying to come to bed. Then the hissing and the snorting and the whining would commence. Mollipop presented me with a hairball during the night so I had to clean that up. I finally got so disgusted that I shooed everybody out of the bedroom and shut the door. Just as I was ready to finally drop back off, Molli started scratching at the bedroom door.
I couldn't let her in and not let everybody else inside, so I gave up. It was just one thing after another and my sleep was minimal.  I'm hoping for an early night tonight as I'm really tired.

A much better night last night sleeping-wise. We got a heavy rainstorm around 2:00 or so and I heard Rick get up to shut the bedroom windows. But the cats behaved last night and I quickly dropped back off and never awakened until Boo started yelling for breakfast around 4:30 or so. I feel much better this morning than I did yesterday. Still have that headache, though. But even that's not as bad as it was.
  • At work, our intern is spending the morning with me. I have some problems with my document in InDesign and that was one of her courses in college. I asked her to come in this morning so that I can pick her brain. I hope she can help because I'm certainly not having any luck on my own!
  • Scoop boxes tonight.
  • Need to go up to the garden and see what's up there. I know that if I look around, there will be some zucchini or squash that needs to be picked. I saw some ripened tomatoes from the bathroom window this morning.

  • worked on planning my new computer set up -- yes, i've given up on my HP computer at this point (the sounds it's making, after returning from the repair shop, remind me of the submarine in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. really..........).
  • only had a few dishes, so did not wash them today; scooped the litter boxes, bundled up the trash

That's a shame, mickNsnicks2mom. I was wondering how you were doing since you got your computer back from the shop. You hadn't said anything, so I figured things were working out well.
  • Two loads of laundry tonight
  • Trash night so a good litter box cleaning is needed
  • My sister is bringing her granddaughter over tonight for a visit. We're going to put her in the pool....should be fun! She just loves water.

thank you, pam. i'd been looking into costs of further diagnostics/repair(s) and deciding what my best move would be. i'm not happy with HP's support, so will not be buying another HP. i'm finding that a lenovo desktop is both reasonably priced and has what i'm looking for. i know what i want in this next computer, so that has helped tremendously. and a big bonus for me is that lenovo offers in-home service (at standard cost) even in my area (aka, 'the sticks') -- and i checked and double checked on this, as well as many authorized service centers in both the rochester and syracuse areas -- i'm just about exactly the same distance from either city. i'm planning on ordering the new computer in early september. for now i'm using my little laptop (quite limited in what it's able to handle), though am very grateful to have it.

for the rest of today i've got a few things to do --
  • give snick her sub-q's
  • wash the dishes, scoop litter boxes, run out the trash
  • write up my 'to-do' list for tomorrows busy day
  • will run the washing machine later this afternoon

we're having a pretty quiet day here today, since i had a boatload of things to do yesterday.
  • gave snick and jaspurr their breakfast, then made my breakfast
  • gave snick her sub-q's, then a snack
  • made my lunch, then scooped the litter boxes and took out the trash
  • did some 'fine tuning' of my new computer system set up -- i'm planning to have two monitors with one tower (and a graphics chip that can handle that), because once i have the deck converted to a catio i'll be wanting to spend the warmer weather months in the downstairs bedroom which will have the french doors opening to the catio where i'm sure the cats will want to be. it'll be less costly to buy a desktop and two monitors (even with the extra cords, extra long ones too), than buying two computers. this little laptop gets me through in an emergency, but it sure is limited and quite slow. today's 'fine tuning' had to do with the cords and cables.

  • Errands: Banking, some things for Rick's mother, Target, etc. Rick needs extra meds to get him through his trip, so we need to talk to the pharmacist.
  • I have to get the screen to my cell phone repaired. I dropped it the other day and the screen cracked. First time I have ever dropped a cell phone. I have no idea what it involves or how to deal with it.
  • Other than that, it's just standard stuff: a bit of cleaning throughout the house, scooping, etc.
mickNsnicks2mom, you're going to love having two monitors. I have two at work and it's made my computer life so much easier. No more having to resize screens when I have a ton of open programs to work on a project. It's the best thing ever for me.
