I believe you can use goats milk too. I would definately ask the vet first since this baby was premature. If they say it's ok you can find canned goat milk where they have the condensed and evaporated milk.

this by royal canins for small kittens should be good, probably even one of the best, comparable with KMR-brand.

At least, their variation sold in Sweden has nowadays a good reputation.

Also the advice of goat milk works.  fresh goat milk even better, but bottled is OK.

This "kitten milk" from 6 weeks mentioned is essentially a low lactose milk.   Does no harm, but it is NOT the same as kmr, as the poster herself said.

Im agreeing, if the raise is so slow, the kitten should have extra now, not in several days.

Although kittens tiny from beginning perhaps not add fully 10 g a day. But 2 g in two days is way too little...

Alert!

Thanks, I've just been to vet and got some Cimicat, i put a little around his mouth so he could get the taste and he had a link but he wasn't really interested, so as not to stress his mama out.I let him go back to her and he went straight to the nipple. She is lactating cos I've checked but the vet said to feed him the kitten replacement milk alongside mothers milk. I hope this works :-)

I've also made some up for mama Tiggs too so she can drink it as well. The vet said this could help her milk production.

I just want to chime in that this is REALLY NOT OKAY weight gain for 2 days in a kitten.  He is in real danger.  It is very very possible that mom is not producing enough milk due to the spay she underwent. This is why it is usually recommended that mom not be spayed until the kittens are at least 6-8 weeks- there is a chance something can go wrong.

I am not meaning to sound harsh or like I am criticizing you, but I am afraid you don't fully understand how VERY serious this situation is.  It is absolutely essential that, whether the kitten 'seems interested' or not, and whether or not mom seems stressed out by it or not, that you begin to feed this kitten immediately.  You should be feeding him every 2 hours at this point.  It is not enough to try to get him used to the taste or see if he is interested or likes it.  It does not matter if he seems interested or if he likes it.  You need to use a dropper and drop a few drops in his cheek, give him some time to take it in, then drop a few more drops in, over and over until he won't take anymore, and you need to do this every 2 hours, or every 4 at an absolute minimum.

Especially because the kitten was (it seems) premature, needed an incubator, etc, his chances are not good unless you begin feeding him immediately.

Thanks I will do this straight away. He wasn't premature, the vets said he was at first but then told us when we went back to pick them up that he wasn't. He was only in an incubator while his mum was coming round from the anaesthetic. Then he was introduced to her.

I had no choice but to have her spayed, the vets said it was a necessity so I just said do it then. Do you think this is why he's not getting enough milk from Tiggs?

I do think there is a big chance that is why, but bluntly, it really doesn't matter why.  You should definitely leave him with her and let him get what he can from her (lots of benefits to him suckling and being with her other than just nutrition).  There is even a  chance she is producing enough milk and for whatever reason he just isn't taking enough. Whatever the reason for his low weight gain, what you need to do is the same- feed him as much as he will take every few hours.

Please let us know how you get on or if you need any more help/advice.  We all want the kitten to be okay.

Thanks, I've just given him some. I felt awful practically forcing him but.like you said it needs to be done. I'm scared though because what if I give him too much at a time. He's just taken 1.4ml of me but.it look like it was coming back through his nose, not sure if it was but it looked like it. I was really patient and only put the tiniest drop of milk in his cheek at a time. Please let me know if I'm doing this right because I've never had to do this before!

If milk is coming back out the nose stop feeding immediately.  Turn him upside down and allow milk to drain if necessary.  If his lungs sound raspy, that is very serious and you should take him to a vet.

I am VERY confused about why this would be happening given the conditions you described though.  This does sometimes happen but usually during bottle feeding where milk is flowing from the bottle too quickly.

Are you feeding him in the same position as he would be in if feeding from mom? You should be feeding him in that position, not as you would a baby. If so I am really confused about what could be going on... if you are only putting a drop at a time into the cheek it should not cause any distress. Did the vet note  (or can you see) any physical abnormalities? This is extremely strange.

The vet said he looked healthy. Yes I fed him in my hand with his face up and his bum down, but not vertical! I don't know if it came through his nose, it just looked like it, his mum cleaned him up afterwards and he snuggle back into her where she continued to clean him. Is 1.4mls enough for now? I will going back and checking him. He doesn't sound like he's struggling to breath. I hope he's going to be alright!

Yes 1.4 mls is enough as a start- you should almost never force them to take more than they will, and if that is all he will take for now it is a fine start... but you will need to keep feeding him every 2 hours.

He should really be perfectly horizontal when you fed him except that his head should be tipped up slightly (which it will do naturally, do not force it). Kitty will lok something like this (but smaller I'm sure) http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-76764523/stock-photo-kitten-being-bottle-fed.html

Usually weighing just once a day at the same time is the best way to get an 'accurate' feel of how a kitten is doing.  Glad he is slightly up though.
Ok, it's usually around this
time that I would weigh him which is why I did. This time yesterday he was 115/116g the day before he was 112g. Thanks for your advice, and everyone else's too. I hope he's going to be alright!
