For the purposes of this quiz, "art" is something that has been exhibited as such by an artist.
me too. Interesting quiz.Originally Posted by Soka

I think that's sort of the point of some modern art. It's more to make you intellectually consider the definition of art, and to challenge your standards, rather than the piece itself. If an orange stripe on the floor provokes thought and internal dialogue within yourself (and obviously a lasting impression) is it not more effective and intellectually stimulating than a representational painting, demonstrating exceptional technical skills, that you only glance at for 2 seconds?Originally Posted by Zissou'sMom

But I just don't get some modern art. I mean, if you aren't sure if it's art or not, it's not. At the DAI there was this thing, that was basically just an orange stripe on the floor, and I stepped on it because I thought it was just a stripe on the floor. Oh wait. That's what it is.
I have seen more recent stuff that is really cool and new and different. But some of it I just look at it and think... "Is this an accident? Did a kindergarten class spill paint?". IMO if something is art just because of who made it... it isn't art.
Honey, I work at a company with one of the largest modern art collections out side of MOMA, some of it is just plain weird. For instance, the Jar of Rocks, or the Pile of Smelly Shoes, and my personal favorite, Lawn Clippings in a Clear Plastic Suite Case.Originally Posted by Zissou'sMom

Like a thing I saw on display, it had its own entire room, and it was basically a security camera pointed at the sky, and you watched the little tv screen where the feed came in. The only reason that was art was because someone famous did it.
Anyway, I got an 8/16 on the quiz.
That is what I got too.Originally Posted by Soka
