I was taking my son to the orthodontist yesterday, in a town half an hour away from where we leave. DH took us and dropped us nearby, then driving my Mom to the bank for a meeting with the bank manager (a painful story in its own right, but not cat related
So, we took the kitten back home with us. When we got home, about an hour later, the kitten seemed worse. I couldn't bear the thought that she might be in pain and if she was deteriorating I didn't want to let her suffer the entire night, so off we went, me and her to my local vet.
The vet had the same diagnosis and said the kitten was not in pain, just extremely disoriented. She gave her a shot of steroids and more food and took her in for the night (which was a great relief, as I don't really have a good place for fostering a sick kitty here). I kept thinking about that poor little thing the entire night. The vets said she was most likely hit by a car, but it could have also been a kick to the head or being dropped from a the nearby building, no way of telling. What I do know is that the kitten had been lying there, in a fairly busy street, for at least a couple of hours with one agitated boy watching over her and zero adults taking an interest.
The good news is that she made it through the night. I am going over to the vet soon to see how she's doing and what we do next. The vet already told me on the phone that the kitten appears to be blind and is not out of the woods. We may need to make a hard decision very soon. Please keep her in your thoughts - she needs all the help she can get.
