I was talking to mum today and she reckons that 4 tornadoes struck NZ recently, thats extremely odd, I've never heard of a tornado in NZ, but heck yeah I would have loved to have been there for that.Originally Posted by gemlady
Yep, sounds like you would like to be a storm chaser in the USA looking for tornados.
I'm still praying it comes our way.Originally Posted by catmomof2

They live in base housing. Form the pictures I've seen they look pretty well built. More like small apartment complexeswith maybe 4 houses per unit. They live in a bottom one. They looked concrete from the siding to me. I don't remember seeing shutters. I know she can see the water from her front door, but is up hill a bit.Originally Posted by calico2222
I went through 2 typoons when I lived in Guam. The first thing they do when it starts getting really bad is shut down all power to protect people from falling live wires, etc. So that probably is what happened in Okinawa. Do you know if your friend had typhoon shutters on her house? They help protect the house a lot. From what I understand, most buildings there are build with typhoons in mind, so your friend is probably fine. It may just be a few days before she can get back in touch with you.
The last typhoon I experienced in 2002 was a trip! It was a super typhoon with sustained winds of 190 mph! Scary, but a rush. We made it through with only water damage in the house (from water blowing in the air conditioners). But, not something I would want to experience again. We didn't have water for 2 weeks, and no power for almost a month. I'm happy to be back in the mountains of US!
It's pretty standard for all the houses to have shutters on them for typhoon season.Originally Posted by MoochNNoodles

I would pick a typhoon over a tornado any day! At least with a typhoon you have some warning and can prepare. A tornado comes out of nowhere. No thank you!Originally Posted by DIEGO
