This is the remote for my TV in the kitchen. It's been accidentally melted a bit on the hob, dropped a gazillion times but it still works. How is it possible?

It's like my brother's old iPod. So much happened to that thing, including almost falling down a sewer drain.

We still have the original remote that came with our cable service and it has tons of knicks and scrapes on it but also still works. I think the reason your tv remote still works is like the old Timex commercial that says, "it takes a licking, but keeps on ticking."
