My cat Simba who is 7, got rushed to the 24 hour emergency clinic around 11:30 on Thursday night. He was in a lot of pain when my husband brought him in and ended up being diagnosed with FLUTD. He has had it before (twice) and both of those times it was because he was peeing on random things in the house and both were treated with medicine. This time was a lot more serious as he had a complete blockage. He ended up staying for the weekend and coming home Sunday morning. He's on 2 medications, one is an antibiotic and one is an antispasmotic. They also said to give him Hills c/d food but we chose not to that, and instead are giving him the canned Wellness Core which is grain free.
When he first got home Sunday he sniffed most of the house for a while and followed us around but then spent the afternoon and evening sleeping. We did get his meds into him and got him to eat a little bit of wet food. Yesterday, I got him to eat over the course of the day almost a full can of the wet food. I personally haven't seen him drinking but I did notice that the water fountain (we bought this Saturday while he was in the hospital) was lower, and the additional dish next to it (so they would have options since it was new) was also lower. We have another cat in the house but I doubt she would be the one drinking all of that so I assume he is drinking. (I posted about this on the other board).
However, today I haven't been able to get him to eat much. He had just about 1/4 of a can for breakfast, and then I gave him some more around lunch time and he ate about 1/8 of the can. I offered some about an hour ago but he just picked at it and then left. I don't know if maybe he had some dry food in the night (I wasn't aware to get rid of it completely, I was leaving a small amount out to help transition to just wet food but now I am thinking that was a bad idea).
I also noticed he made several trips to the bathroom between his last two feedings. I followed him and he was peeing, about a tablespoon or such. And he might have pooped but it could have been my other cat because they went in back to back before I had a chance to get in there.
I also noticed he was licking his privates a lot during this time, and then going back and forth to the box. I'm so worried about him and getting the blockage again and I feel like I have been stalking him since he got home. Right now he is upstairs in the closet sleeping (his favorite spot) inside my purse. I did call the vet that saw him and she said it was ok if he didn't eat a lot and that as long as he is peeing. But I just wanted to check with others who have dealt with this.
I'm also not sure how long the recovery proses is until he is better? After his medication, longer, shorter? Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated. I've searched and read other FLUTD posts but still wanted to get a little bit of feedback on him.
