I had foster kittens in the house and a month ago (half way through the foster) my guys started itching a fair bit. I washed their bedding- rinsed them without soap- and waited anxiously for the next application of Revolution. (monthly- it was about a week away). I checked them for fleas and found no evidence at all... no hair loss or red skin either.. just twitches licking and scratching. The vet also checked Misty over when she was in and said she didn't have any.
We gave them the rev. and the bf did it wrong on both of them.. right spot it just was mostly on their hair- not skin. The kittens left a week ago and the itching had already got better (I was thinking maybe it was mosquittos or something).. and now they only have a twitch and lick every so often but I had noticed a week ago the itching has changed to just their ears. Diago actually carefully puts his toe nails in his ear and scratches. I have cleaned their ears and they were waxy.. Diago had a few (4-6 maybe) flecks of blood in there too from his scratching I would assume. The flecks keep coming back daily. I wipe the flecks out of his ears daily and don't have to do anything with Misty because she doesn't get them.. their ears are clean, the wax I removed was clear and not dirty before. Its just Diagos flecks that keep coming back and they are both itching. Diago itches worse and the itch is not so bad that they will stop what they are doing to itch. No behaviour changes.
They both raise their leg to itch/ scratch their ear if I rub under it (where it bulges out a bit).. im wondering if it could be ear mites because of the rev being applied poorly the one time? But they don't have nasty gunky ears or shake their heads.. also no odour. My plan was to wait until the next rev dose (next Monday) and see if it was resolved because that's all my vet prescribes for ear mites anyways.. and if it didn't resolve bring one in to see. I don't know what else it could be because they both have it.. so unlikely to be infection or anything. And so odd that it was body and then moved to ears.. unlikely to be a food thing because they are eating a chicken dry food that they have eaten before as well as wet food that is on a daily changing rotation of about 6 or so kinds that they have been eating a while.. well friskies is new but only misty eats that.
I will be changing to raw soon too- I was waiting for misty to be done with her not eating thing (reason she was at the vet when I asked them to check her for fleas) and she is pretty well fine now.
Ideas?
