I've read several places that in feeding wet food it's best to get the kind with no gravy? Can anybody tell me why? My cats love the stuff with gravy and mostly turn up their noses at the kind without.
Many cats like - and even prefer - "soupy" or slurry-style foods. I use Natalie_ca's "recipie" and add some extra water to get that effect.,,and, they love it! Extra benefits come with doing that...cats get extra water, wet food can be left "down" for longer periods (no, it won't go "bad" if the room temperature is moderate - I leave it out overnight and even the little remaining in the AM is still moist).Originally Posted by GoldyCat

That sounds just like Barkley, I get so frustrated when they do that because they end up wasting the actual food. Does it make more sense if you buy something with gravy to just drain the gravy off? I have tried giving my two wet food without gravy but they dont like it and then when it does contain gravy all they do is lick it away and ignore the wet foodOriginally Posted by Natalie_ca
I don't give my cats food with "gravy" because all they do is lick the gravy and leave the actual food behind.
That's what I was doing for Belle and Delilah until the day a decided to try putting it in the magic bullet with a little extra water. I guess the soupier the better for my girls! Before, it was hit or miss whether they would eat it all. Now, there is very rarely anything left. Delilah still doesn't eat much of it, but Belle gobbles it up! It sounds like a lot of work, but it actually takes less time than mashing it up with the spoon! I knew I bought that blender for a reason!Originally Posted by Natalie_ca
Now I just give Chynna pate style food and mix in a tablespoon of water and mash it up a bit more with the back of a spoon.
