Some quick backstory, my 15 wk old kitten reacted very badly to his (what I feel was an "extra", unneeded) 4th fvrcp booster 9 days ago. He took 3 days to rebound from that and finally become his old playful self. But since then, he's been tapering down on his energy level. He used to chase the laser all over the place and jump and follow it, whenever and wherever. Now, when it gets to the couch or the cat tree, he sits and watches it and doesn't jump up to "get it". He used to also climb his cat tree with a passion, racing up and down, but not recently (the last maybe 4 days).
He also pees a lot (now 9-11x/day and twice outside the box) and we're investigating that. I took in a free catch sample yesterday, results due back tomorrow. He had a needle sample taken at the appt the vaccine booster was given (which is why I don't think he should have been given shot when he's clearly not 100%), and the vet called and said that it was free of crystals and she said, infection. But I've read that sometimes infection lower in the urinary tract isn't picked up thru a cystocentesis. He's had boodwork done and a fecal sample done, too. Vet said those were clear and neg.
Could a UTI cause a slowing down of energy level? Is it causing pain to jump? SOMEtimes he can still work up enough energy to chase his favorite cat dancer toy but he doesn't chase the little balls and toy fish/mice/etc. that he used to and the not climbing and playing on the cat tree has me worried, esp when it's to chase the laser up the cat tree. He just sits and stares at it going up the tree, as if thinking, "I'll just have to sit this one out, because I'm not up to it."
Or could a problem with his kidneys be causing him pain/fatigue in his hind quarters causing it to be difficult or overly taxing to jump and climb?
Thanks to all!
p.s. Has anyone heard of it being bad to give a fvrcp booster to a cat with a UTI? Kidney issues? I just read a post from another member that said his kitten almost died from acute renal failure from a fvrcp booster....absolutely tragic and frightening
