I don't know what's wrong with our Carolina Dog, Whiskey, but lately he's started using the bathroom in our house. He is indoors only, and we've had him since Feb. without him ever going potty inside of the house. In the last month or two though he's started peeing and pooping inside
I don't know why
I took him to the vet when this first started to rule out any sort of medical condition before assuming it was behavioral. He got a clean bill of health and the vet said it is behavioral.
So now what?
I've never had a dog that's gone potty in the house before. He is trained to ring a string of bells attached to the back door to tell us when he wants outside -but he doesn't do it when he wants to just relieve himself in the house
I dunno what to think. He's peed on the Christmas tree, the tree skirt, the presents, the couch, the floor, pooped in two different rooms. I'm at my wits ends with this, so he is going into the crate from now on when i'm at work just to see if that helps stop the behavior. I'm going to try and retrain him all over again i guess.
He is around 8 years old (he'll be 9 in Febuary). (We adopted him in Feb.) He has a clean bill of health from the vet, hasn't had any changes to his eating/drinking habits, gets plenty of exercise, and knows all of his basic commands/etc. I'm not sure what triggered this behavior- but i'm determined to try and work with him to stop it.
Any suggestions you guys? I'm not sure what to do aside from crate him when i'm at work. He goes potty in the morning before i go to work, on my lunch break, when i get off work- and about every two hours when i'm home at night. When Colin is home he lets him out frequently as well...so he goes outside often. Any suggestions??? We are training him with the book, "The Loved Dog " (Tamar Geller). I am going to read through it again and see if there's any suggestions in there about pottying in the house.
He is a housebroken dog and has never had issues before now. I'm just wondering what's wrong
I hate that my little guy's doing thing and i don't know how to get him to stop.
Any ideas?????
