I WAS vegetarian for 10 years, but that ended in '97 when I couldn't stand it anymore and started eating fish...not all seafood, but fish. I appreciate the kind thoughts and I wish I was that righteous, but I'm not. I actually cook meat for my DF and friends. Of course, they get fed vegetarian food and fish as well. I feel that it is not up to me to try and change them.Originally Posted by pandybear

I believe something a little different. I think that if it is in one's heart and he/she is strong enough to be a vegan or vegetarian, they should do it. Some people can't and that is their decision and no one should judge them/us.
Some people shouldn't drink.
Some people shouldn't watch TV.
I short, different people have different values, strengths, and weaknesses.
Thats why I felt hippocritical. I would not ever tell him he shouldn't eat rabbit, but it would have bothered me a lot when I saw and smelled the smoke coming from the grill knowing what it was.
You didn't say anything you should be sorry about. Sorry I made you feel that way!Originally Posted by KitEKats4Eva!

I will cook meat for my friends and had a barbeque for my birthday - I just ate vegetarian. So that kind of contradicts what I said earlier. My friends wouldn't expect me to cook meat for them, though and are very happy with my vegetarian dinners. But my bf is not vegetarian (although he was vegan for many years) so we have meat in the house all the time. I also cook meat for my dogs, and of course feed it to my cats.
I think rabbit is a little different - that would really spin me out. I suppose what I should have said before is, where it is practical and not offensive, I advocate against meat consumption. However I'm not a nazi about it.
I would LOVE to have the strength of heart and conviction to be a vegan, but I just couldn't. I love ice cream and chocolate too much!!
It always amazed me how people can discard an animal after years of companionship. Sad.Originally Posted by jcat
I wouldn't have been able to cook it, either, though I have to admit that I've eaten rabbit meat (in restaurants), and fed it to both dogs and cats (canned food). We live in a semi-rural county, and there are a lot of "rabbit breeders" and "rabbit shows" that are covered in the local newspaper. I was rather shocked when I read an article about what happens to prize rabbits when they're past their prime breeding days - they often end up as a roast on the breeder's table!?
I don't remember that but it sounds like a riot!Originally Posted by jcat

Why is that sad? It's a way of life for some people. It's just different than a lot of urban folksOriginally Posted by Rockcat

My statement "It always amazed me how people can discard an animal after years of companionship. Sad." applied to the situation JCat mentioned, but I also meant it in general terms.Originally Posted by AshleyJade

You don't need to feel bad. Just because 99% of your beliefs are well thought out and sensible, doesn't mean you don't always have the option of saying, "Because it feels better to me!" So maybe you are all for women's rights, but want your bf or dh to open doors for you. Oh, well. May not make sense to everybody, but if that is how you feel, it is important!Originally Posted by Rockcat
