Sorry Jem, this was taken completely from Superuser.com. It is what they were saying to a user who had the 1117 error. Here is what you could try. If it is your harddisk that is failing they will sometimes work if you put them on their sides. Meaning you run the command Chkdsk c: /r /f and press enter (The /r means locate bad sectors and relocate readable information) then turn your laptop on its edge and leave it there while the command works. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. There is a program called Spinrite by Gibson Research Corporation that recovers most harddrives, but in your case probably not worth it to spend the money. I also found you could recover harddrives by freezing them overnight then running chkdsk. NOT that you should put your laptop in the freezer, but if your harddrive was easy to remove and put back, this could be tried. As others have said, it might be best to get a USB stick, copy your important data to it and save your pennies for a newer unit. I have heard Black Friday in November is a good time to buy a new unit if you go that route.
