Too funny - my first car, a 1974 Chevy Nova had a cracked distributor cap. Every time it rained, I'd have to pop the hood and spray WD-40 on it to get it to start.

So, do we add WD-40 to the list of essential items that fix everything? You know the saying: if you can't fix it with duct tape and vice grips, throw it out?
