My ears were pierced at the doctor's office when I was about 6 weeks old. Yes my Dad had a big hissy fit when we got home!
But I'm glad Mom had it done when I was young because I don't remember if it hurt or not! Pain is the reason I still only have those holes. Although I keep saying if/when I get myself to loose my extra weight I will be piercing my naval and getting a tattoo. Howz that for motivation?

I hope you can find a good place for them to get their ears pierced. Let us know how it goes and where you find to get it done!

The most safe place to get a piercing is at a clean, lisenced/reputable tattoo/piercing parlor. where they practice good safety standards (fresh gloves between each patient, a new hygenic needle fresh out of the wrapper (make sure they open it in front of you)...etc. When you think about it- these people preform piercings/etc all day long -so many times they are the most quick/painless people to trust. Make sure the shop is clean and has a good rating.
Nikki took the words right out of my mouth... and then some!
I don't plan on getting any more piercings but if I do it will ALWAYS be at a tattoo shop.

Call a local one and see if he or she is willing to come out to your home and do it. The reason I know this is I've had friends that have had piercing parties. I believe that it is the youthful precursor to a Botox party.
I can't imagine why any tattoo parlor would turn away a minor as long as there's a parent present.

Thanks for all the great advice!

I just found out they want to wait until their birthdays (April and June, 2008).My daughter was a little cross with me the other day because I didn't have her ears pierced when she was a baby! She said if I had, she could wear earrings now and not have the pain!

Not a suggestion, more of a memory, really, but...I think I remember years ago they used to make earrings that are self-piercing. You wear them and they eventually work their way through. I believe they were hoop earrings.

Anybody else remember these or is it a figment of my imagination?

Don't go to claires, or any little shops like it. My friend worked there, and to be able to pierce ears thier training consists of just watching a video. Plus I've heard things about them being unsanitary. You best bet would be to go to a tattoo and piercing shop, as long as it's a reputable place you'll be much happier with the results than you would be if you go to claires.

I remember those!! I had my ears pierced by those when I turned six years old...and they were called "Sleepers" back then! They have a little spring of a thingie on the back of the hoop that gradually gets tighter and tighter....in six weeks they were done! Hmmm...wonder iof they still make them??

I think I was born with pierced ears! lol My mom had a pediatrician do them before I knew I existed and I am thankful for it! I agree. I used to be a manager at claires, and it is just sales associates that do it. Rather concerning. The earrings are sterile, but the guns are only cleaned using alcohol. Not that anything gets on them, but still. . .

I totaly agree with the tattoo parlor idea. . . They will think they are hot stuff too comming out of a tattoo parlor!
