I've been reading around the site and seeing that fish is something that should only be fed on occasion due to health concerns with heavy metals and the like. What are your guys' thoughts on giving fish oil as a supplement weekly then?

My kitten has a super silky coat due to the high fat kitten food he is on. I want to keep this silky coat when he eventually has to switch to adult food, so I'm considering a weekly fish oil supplement.

Fish oils are absolutely fine to feed (provided your cat isn't allergic, of course ;) ). They're the best source of omega fatty acids for cats :)

I'd be very wary of adding a supplement to an already balanced diet though - adding in
extra fish oils could easily unbalance things...not to mention that higher fat diets can sometimes cause diarrhoea in adult cats!

Feeding a high quality, species appropriate diet (ideally mostly wet or raw) should ensure that your kitten's coat stays really silky as he grows up :)
