Does anyone happen to know what type of breed this cat is? We spotted the feral cat in the woods of New Jersey. It has a ringed tail quite similar to a raccoon. It’s face looks like a mix of a raccoon and a cat. Fairly large cat. Is there a known name for the breed? If not, could this be a new sub species and who should we contact about it?? Thanks! 02B051B8-D265-4E8A-8AB4-16B668722C33.jpeg

Eh, just a regular tabby-and-white cat with a particularly stripey tail. If you go around looking at every cat's tail I'm sure you'll find plenty more.

Cats usually breed with any other cat they want to, so most cats have no breed background at all. And he's definitely not a sub-species.

Five of our 6 former ferals also have similar striped tails. With some, it is more pronounced than others, but it is there.

Yes, the stripes on his tail are more pronounced then on most cats. He's different looking that's for sure. I hope he can be rescued.
