What type of couch is good to have that a cat won't scratch?

We have leather furniture. Yeah, there are scratch marks, primarily from them launching themselves off of it. But it's held up pretty well (functionally) all these years.

Duck Fabric. Also called..(Duck Cloth, Army Duck, Duck Canvas).    It sounds more like what you use for an outdoor awning, and not something you would use inside.  However, some of the better examples of it can be seen at Restoration Hardware website.
It also readily available as just a fabric, and many other furniture makers are now using it.

Our sofas have this on them. And ZERO sign of any kitty scratches or punches.  (and we are constantly catching the little booger doing his best to shred).
We also have two chairs that are some sort of leather by-product.  Bonded leather I think is what it's called.   These look like somebody has taken an ice pick to them.
