Last night I was incredibly sad, and it followed into this morning. Angel
had bit her foster mom very badly, broke skin, almost down to bone. We
cannot adopt her out like that. Perhaps that is why her owners surrendered
her. She is so beautiful. It is so sad. I emailed the shelter, who explained
what the shelter would do. Foster mom would have to file a bite report,
Angel would be quarantined and then killed after 10 days. The shelter
can't adopt her out either.
I talked to foster home, and explained it to her. We both cried. That is no
way to have to end your life. Housed in a cage for 10 days and then
carried off to your death.
So we got creative. We thought outside the box. We talked to other
rescuers. We made deals. We teamed up. We saved lives. A lot of them.
Angel will be heading down to Fresno on Saturday to a sanctuary where she
can live out her life, well fed, taken care of, with shelter and even some
lovin' from adults used to biting cats. Folks aware of the warning signs
to look for. In return, we are taking 9 kittens that the sanctuary is pulling from the Fresno shelter that were sheduled to be euthanized today.
So instead of sentencing Angel, and these babies to death, we have the opportunity to save them all.
This is what rescue is all about.
