What is this?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew what this might be? This isn’t my cat but she’s a family friend’s cat and I noticed this on her tail. I saw her again today and saw she has lost more hair in that same spot. She is an indoor and outdoor cat and she feels pain on her tail whenever it’s touched.

Cat needs to see a vet. There are many ways to get injured outside. Keep the cat inside so it doesn't get infected if not already. The vet will give her antibiotics if needed

Welcome to TCS! I agree with the above two members that your friend should contact his/her vet. The fact that she feels pain when touched on her tail indicates she's in pain and needs medical treatment.
