What is everyone's opinion on prescription food?

My vet diagnosed her that as it happen 4 times I think 8 yrs ago. Then it happen twice this year. I was told it could be an age thing by an er vet. That's why I wonder how well d mannose can prevent it or some kind if cat food that's in pate form.

If I understand right,with FLUTD the cause is unknown so it's hard to treat. Ibd The internal medacine doctor can determine so they can treat it better. If I can't solve the problem then go to doc and follow her advice. No harm in trying d mannose. Hopefully it will make her feel better.My vet wanted my cat on purina proplan en without knowing the cause but the internal medacine doctor found the cause and treated it with medacine and giving her commercial food.
