Hi All,

I just want to thank you all for the information on L-Lysine. It does seem to be helping, Loki my Savannah. Well I think it is. He is also on an antibacterial (gram positive/gram negative) as well.

But he is sneezing far less so I am very happy
.

Thank you all
.

L-Lysine is also available in treat form on some sites. I buy a bag of 200 treats for 12.99. My cats love the flavor of them-simple to get in in them daily. I've been using the treat form for over three years daily, and have never had another flare up since. Before that-they would flare up around every four months.

Bovine lactoferrin helps too, in two daily doses of 125 mg each. This is in addition to, not instead of the lysine.

:wavey:Hi, you have to be very careful using anything that has a smell with it. I was going to use a candle that has eucalyptus scent to it. My veterinarian warned me that anything that has a vapor or an ordor to it will bother the cats. There noses are very sensitive to them. I would steam up the bathroom to help my cat to breathe along with Llysigne. My got slept getting worse. I finally had to put her down. Her baby also has it. The changes in weather seams to effect her. My cats contacted there cease from stray cats hissing and spitting thru a screen windows. I kept chasing the strays away, but the still got it. I would suggest going to a veterinarians office instead the human society, so they can see the same veterinarian each time and better help your cat. They wanted to scope my cats naval passages and sinuses and wind them to a specialist. The test would be around 2000.00 dollars. I started her on the supplement Llysigne and antihistamines that the veterinarian prescribed for her. She is doing great now. When the Windows are open and the weather changes she needed the antihistamines then until it the sneezing settles down. The Llysigne is a supplement for there amuine system. It builds antibodies to help fight things off. Djbi

I have a 14 yr. old Siamese cat with a herpes infection of her left eye along with an auto-immune disorder that causes her teeth to thin and break off. About a month prior to having 8 teeth removed, the herpes started to flare up and she began to have the usual sneezing fits along with a persistant dry cough that would literally stop her in her tracks. She had surgery to remove 8 teeth on July 22, 2014 and was give a Convenia shot afterwards-24 hours later her eye had returned to normal and the sneezing and coughing had completely stopped. I discussed this with my vet but she had no explanation as to why an antibiotic would have this effect on a viral infection unless she had developed a secondary infection that was too weak to show up in her pre-op blood work. Then, around the 1st of December, her eye flared and the sneezing and coughing fits returned. I called my vet and asked if she could have another Convenia shot. She said it certainly wouldn't hurt to try so I took her in for another shot on December 18 and, 24 hours later, her eye was normal and the sneezing and coughing had stopped once again. The symptoms returned last month so I took her in for another shot on April 30 and had the same result within 24 hours. I have no idea whether or not this will work on other herpes kitties but felt I should put my experience with Convenia out there for everyone to see. It has greatly improved the quality of life for my cat and I hope it will do the same for others.

Kat2, thanks for sharing. Sounds like it is a mycoplasma infection that was mislabeled as herpes. Was a UR Panel ever run to identify via PCR the cause of the weepy eye?

And sadly, we see the problems with convenia over-represented here, because people post to the forum when there are problems. I'm so glad it's helping your kitty with no side-effects. The problem with convenia is also why it is so convenient: it's one shot. If it doesn't agree with someone's cat, there's no way to "undo" it. :/
