Hi! About a week ago, I got this sweet kitten. He is a boy. He’s very vocal and SUPER affectionate. At 8 weeks old he already loves to sleep on my chest or snuggle in my lap. His fur is also remarkably soft (compared to my other cat, and other kitty’s I’ve felt!). The girl I got him from said he was a Ragdoll x Siamese mix. But, some people I know think he is Burmese x Siamese. Would anyone like to share their informed opinion? I’d love to hear more feedback :)

That is one seriously adorable kitten you have! What's his name? Great pictures, too.

I would describe your kitten as a seal point domestic longhair. Seal point coloring is due to the recessive colorpoint gene. Colorpoint originally came from the Siamese breed about 70 years ago, but at this time it is widespread in the domestic cat gene pool and doesn't indicate recent Siamese ancestry... so, we don't know from looking at your kitten if his closest Siamese breed ancestor was 5 generations ago, or 100 generations ago.

Why did she describe him as a Ragdoll x Siamese mix? Was it a guess based on his appearance, or his parents' appearance? Or does she know something about his ancestry?

He doesn't resemble a Burmese x Siamese mix... that combination would give you a shorthaired cat with a "mink" color (intermediate between colorpoint and sepia), similar to the Tonkinese breed.

Thank you for the reply!! I’m still unsure on his name; it’s between Rooney, Roman, and Kylo!

I had a friend on Facebook whose queen had kittens, and she simply told me they were a Siamese x Ragdoll mix. I saw pics of mom, but not dad, so I am not sure if she was going off appearance or what.

I do agree (simply based on my novice google research :p) that if he was Burmese x Siamese he’d be more short haired.

Here are pics of him with mom and his 2 brothers (sent to me by the owner before I got him!).

Given the appearance of the kittens, it's likely the dad was also pointed in color, like mom :) But that doesn't give us definite information about the parents' breeds... they could both be pointed random-bred domestic cats, or they might have recent breed ancestry.

If you can get better pictures of mom (and dad), we might be able to give you a better idea of whether the parents resemble the breeds your friend mentioned. But your best bet would be to write back to your friend and ask for more information about the parents and what she knows about their ancestry!

No way of telling for sure but, I could see a Ragdoll / Siamese mix possibility. More background and pics of both parents would be helpful. Stunning cat though! Welcome to the site!

There's someone around here who deliberately breeds Ragdoll x Siamese and they look a lot like that, so it's probably true. But you can never be quite sure unless you see the parents' papers.

He's a cutie! Those ears!
