I'm considering adopting these two kittens from the shelter and I'm wondering what they could be, not that it really matters. Sorry I only have one picture of each of them
The odds are that like over 95% of cats they are no particular breed. but some of the great population of random-bred cats called Domestic Longhair or Domestic Shorthair.
I guess those kittens must take after dad ! They sure don't look much like their Mama, do they?
Mom must be carrying a gene for longhair and non-agouti ( solid instead of tabby)
If you are wondering if there's some breed they just happen to resemble a bit..... hmmm.. maybe Norwegian Forest Cat? Obviously they are not purebred NFCs. and probably not at all.
Well, genetically there is no such thing as "medium hair". It's either long or short. but there's a range of length within each.
And the term "medium hair" seems to get used casually to describe both the longest shorthairs and the shorter part of the range of longhairs. LOL .
As you say, it can be difficult to tell with young kittens.. but I think these kittens look like they are probably going to be longhairs. but not super long like a Persian .
Re Persians as the only longhairs. that is how it is really classified in GCCF. Longhair is Persians. Then all the other longhair breeds are in Semi-Longhair.
I always think that is bizarre that the Exotic SHORTHAIR is in the Longhair div in CFA ! Even if they are mostly Persians they are still shorthair!
