Say what??? I think I have a pretty sweet looking baby, and hubby didn't even have a long dark mane! Maybe I should have chosen better!!!Originally posted by Thirtysilver
Natural selection is nautre's way of making sure genetic defectives do not get bred into animal populations. This is why you see contests for dominance in males of many animal species. The strongest one has the best genes, so he gets to mate -thus insuring offspring with strong genes. Lionesses will actually tend to choose a mate who has a long, black mane. Sometimes, when a lion gets hurt, its mane falls out. Then, it is effectively shuffled from the breeding pool. Big, dark manes mean good genes, so lionesses pick dark-maned lions in order to pass good genes on to their young. Also, if you watch the Discovery channel, you'll see predators culling the weak and the sick from herds of prey. Bad genes, strained from the gene pool.
Now, think about how we humans treat our sick and our weak. Think about how many genetic diseases there are floating around in our gene pool. We do not weed out genetic defectives because we, as moral animals, believe in the "value of life."
We are a very badly bred species!
Of course, there is good within us. There are intelligent, beautiful, and artistic people out there. We humans're not all bad.
