I have a friend who has 4 cats. She just recently got the last 2 of them. The first 2 are declawed. When she told me her plans to declaw the 2 new ones, I asked her to reconsider and at the very least research her decision.
She called me and let me know that she wasn't going to get the 2 new ones done and to say that she felt incredibly guilty about getting the first 2 done. I was just so happy that she had looked into it and came to her own conclusion how awful it was.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us! I am so glad this is becoming a reality in some parts of the US. I just wish Sacramento would get on the stick and do the same.
Great news! I have friends that have declawed their cats and look at me sideways when I try to explain how cruel that is (well...I try to put it tactfully). It's good to hear more people are understanding how hurtful it is.
That is such excellent news. Full marks to TCS and those here that so strongly advocate the banning of this horrible practice, keep up all the hard work, and lobby press, poiticians and vets groups as hard as you can.
Yes, it is illegal in Europe - certainly is in the UK, that's for sure. Before I came to this site, I didn't even know that there was such a thing as declawing.
