We're also close enough to the New Madrid fault to feel small earthquakes every so often.  Back in the 1800s there was supposedly an earthquake so strong that it made the Mississippi River run backwards.
It caused church bells to ring in Boston, Mass.

Not too many fortunately, but we have had tornadoes in the area, some very bad ones.  And when Hurricane Fran came ashore (whatever year that was) it came right through here as a CAT 1.  Based on that, I hope I never have to see a stronger one!  We have had snow storms that shut everything down for days and a couple ice storms that knocked the power out.
