You just described our nightly ritual with Neely to a tee. DH is a light sleeper and curses when he wakes up. We have tried everything including playing before bed for at least 20 - 30 min. We have put her in a separate room, locked her out of our room, you name it but there are only so many rooms in the house. She not only meows but throws herself against the door and sounds like Rambo.

We have had cats for almost 30 yrs. and she is the first to be this nocturnal. All our other cats have wanted to curl up in bed with us at night. I don't think she'll grow out of this ritual either since she's approx. 4 or 5 yrs. old. (We adopted her between 1 - 2 yrs. of age.) If it helps I just thought you'd like to know you're not alone!
