I just got home from the primary and caucus and she wanted the pastor's number from her church. I asked her why and she said that just in case because you never know what will happen.

I think she thinks she is going to not make it and it just puts me into a deeper depression.

The liver specialist called and they want to run more blood work tomorrow.

They also want to run a scope through the back of her neck to get a look at her liver. Has anyone experienced having a scope? What are the risks? Do they put you under?

My mom is already worried that something could go wrong. She is very weak and in enough pain. She doesn't want more pain!! They said it would be painful.

Her appointment is next weds. Please send some vibes it is NOT liver diease and just a horrible reaction to meds.

I bought her a little bear at the gift shop at work and got her to smile a little. So I think that cheered her up a bit. It is now tucked in with her in bed.

It sounds like they want to do a liver biopsy via a vein in her neck. Read this site. http://www.upmc.com/HealthManagement...hunkiid=102810

I had a conventional liver biopsy, I have primary biliary cirrhosis, an autoimmune disease.

They may be choosing to do the biopsy through the vein because of your Moms current condition.

When I had my biopsy I was awake and they gave me lidocaine to numb the surface of the skin and the membrane around the liver where all the nerves are. Then they took a punch like thing and stabbed it between my ribs into my liver to take out pieces. Gross yes, but really didn't hurt as bad as I expected. Lots of pressure and I have a very narrow rib cage so getting between the bones was a bit difficult. But in all honesty it really didn't hurt. The lidocaine hurt the most.

Additionally, with this method they used ultrasound to visualize the liver and the blood flow and veins so they didn't accidentally get punched, which could cause severe bleeding. When they visualized where they wanted to sample I had to instantly stop breathing, no inhale or exhale, just stop. This is because if you inhale or exhale while they are taking the sample it can tear the liver.

Since your Mom's clotting factors are so bad I would think a traditional biopsy would be too risky for her because of the bleeding risks.

Still sending lots of vibes that the problem is medication related.

Make sure you keep her spirits up. You're being so strong throughout this. Take care of yourself too.

I just caught up with this -- oh, I'm sorry your mom is hurting so much. And you know I understand how hard it is for you, too, to see her go through this. I don't know what to say, except that I'm sending up good thoughts for you and your mom. Please pm me if you want to talk, hon.
