For those of you who remember me & my babies, I'm so sorry to have disappeared so long.. so much changed so fast due to very sudden changes in life circumstances, but oh boy, I always missed the board and you guys & hoped everyone was well.
Meanwhile, over here, due to financial troubles, I had to cut all unnecessary expenses asap (the internet being one of them). Soon after I had to rehome my sweet Moosiekins, and am now having to go through the agonizing rehoming over and over again with MoJo, Kita and Shadow. I never dreamed this could have ever been remotely possible, losing my babies, but it's all happening and then some. Billy, Johnboy & Kitten might very well be going into foster until I find a place we can all live (have to move soon).

Pumpkin also has been intermittently and increasingly ill since November with diarrhea, dehydration, lost two pounds in a year, etc.. I contacted many vets, but couldn't find one that would see him without my being able to pay 45%-75% of their estimate for full treatment after the first exam. It made/makes no sense to me.. I should have rehomed him from the very start of it, yet I made the awful decision not to do more.. what I should have done for him. Everything was so overwhelming, I was too selfish and in denial, not wanting to face the pain of giving him up, so I kept looking.
I can't stand when someone doesn't get immediate care for their ill pet.. and yet, there I was.
Recently I faced the reality of how selfish I was being and was looking at giving him up for treatment (obviously making sure he'd be rehomed to loving people) until this Friday when a vet was finally willing to see him at the last minute. He was being his super friendly, silly self.. loved being there, ran everywhere, said hello to everyone possible.. he even rolled over for his temp check. They got such a kick out of him. Anyway.. the doctor said that #1) he has tooth resorption and will need a full mouth extraction. #2) She strongly believes FIV is the culprit behind everything. He was tested before I adopted him and was negative, but he's going to be tested again on Monday. They were wonderful, though, and donated meds (dewormer in case of parasites, antibiotic for his inflamed gums, lysine since the previous vet diagnosed him with herpes) + a steroid injection for the inflammation until I get my ID on Monday and can get care credit for his treatment. He's been a little more perky, his gums likely less painful, playing a bit.. but not fully himself. On top of it all.. when we got home Friday, Billy had green discharge starting from one of his eyes, and now he's sneezing a lot. JB has coughed a couple of times. They will both be going with us to the vet on Monday for their own exams since I'll have care credit.

I'm just in this terrified panic, and feel overwhelmingly guilty, like I basically just killed Pumpkin because of the decisions I've made, including my other sweet boys by adopting Pumpkin in the first place, possibly spreading the FIV. If I hadn't have adopted him, he'd would have been cared for and wouldn't have gone through this, which I put him through basically, and my boys/kitten/fosters would have never been at risk. Can't stop bawling, having panic attacks, those "what if?" and "what have I done?" questions tumbling over in my head..

I'm sorry if this sounded pathetically dramatic or overboard to you guys, and I admit I'm a complete emotional and mental mess that's having a real difficult time coping right now, but I just had to get it out somewhere. I understand if some of you feel like giving me the "what for" over my horrible decisions.. but please send out all of the vibes & prayers you can for my babies..

I am so sorry you are in this situation... All the vibes and prayers going your way... Do you have to re-home them?
About Pumpkin: do not freak out just yet about your vet thinking he has FIV... He was tested negative, and IMO chances are he probably is negative... In fact, if he was tested negative before you adopted him, I am not sure why she thinks this way - did you tell her that? But anyways, Yes, Resorptive Lesions often happens on FIV cats, BUT it also often happens in herpes cats, and cats with stomatitis, or in cats with periodontal disease who are FIV negative - the later two tendencies being hereditary, and that could be your case (I am dealing with a similar case Stomatitis + resorptive lesions + periodontal, FIV neg, in a herpes cat, hereditary)... Also, if he is FIV, that doesn't mean you infected the whole house... not at all... They would need to draw blood or bodily fluids - it doesn't spread that easily... If you get care credit, take him to a vet dentist - that will be your best bet.

I feel for you. I sit here hoping things get better for you soon. I understand how it feels to feel like you've let your babiez down. It was not intentional on your part, we all make mistakes. (I lost a ferret to a horrible death becuause of a mistake I made... I hurt when I think about it) the important thing is to own up to our mistakes, and make a point to LEARN.
Your silver lining will show itself as soon as your eyes adjust to see it. It's there. Sometimes you need to look hard to find it, as the negativity seems to tarnish silver when viewed through unhappy eyes.

Be safe.

Thanks for the vibes for my kitties & your knowledgeable words..
The vet did know he was tested negative, for FeLV as well, but with the intermittent diarrhea+overall weight loss, she's suspicious. He's always had a "winky", watery eye.. but never goopy eyes or any snot.. never a fever. And she did put him on the dewormer in case.. he just had a much more solid poo tonight. Hoping beyond hope that it's not a coincidence. Not perfect, still a little mucus, but much better. Tomorrow is the fecal, FIV&FeLV testing, another general exam.. they will be scheduling me an appointment tomorrow at a dental specialist they've referred me to so we can get all he needs done there as well. I'll probably start a health thread with my questions so they'll be in the right forum.. oops!

As for my other babies, I have no choice but to rehome Shadow & the pups..
The wonderful lady I adopted Kita from is helping me with her & MoJo, and I may be going to stay with her for a bit until I find a place, but she's allergic to cats.. which is why my boys & Kitten will be going in to foster for a bit. I'm doing my best to keep them together, and keep Punky out of foster.. but I'm such an emotional mess, what if foster would be good for them until I can find a place for us to settle, Punky is healed and I'm better myself??
So many decisions.. that'll be another conversation I have with the vet tomorrow too. I don't really know anyone here, especially one that doesn't scoff, "it's just a cat!"

Thank you, too, for your understanding words..
.. and I know you are mostly right, but negativity is all there is right now, some of it untrue but some of it too true.. I just cannot see a silver lining out of his illness & my part in it..
But thank you.. and I hope I can learn to harness such maturity and wisdom too.

I strongly advise you to see a dentist - FYI: Stomatitis, the dental condition I explained earlier, is hereditary, and often kitties who have it also have IBD/IBS, and a symptom of it of course is chronic loose stool/diarrhea. My Bugsy started his treatment about a week ago, for his stomatitis, and I am happy to report that his lose stool is also gone. This is one of the things they discussed with me - VERY common. The weight loss might be due to pain - Resorptive Lesions are EXTREMELY painful, and so is stomatitis - again, weight loss is very very common.
That is why I really really think you need to see a dentist, and not a vet... If you are tight on $$$, you are not spending on the right place... I promise you that... Words from my vet to me (I am unemployed, with a cat on a similar situation): "Carolina, I am a good vet, but a bad business man - I could take your money but It will do no good... You need a dentist... Save your money and go. Only a dentist can help you" And I can tell you that He was SO RIGHT!!!
I am not saying that he has the same thing as Bugsy... BUT........ It sounds very suspicious to me, given his age, his negative FIV test, his Herpes issue, his Resorptive Lesions, etc, that his issues are dental issues, hereditary dental issues... FYI: About 1/2 of the cats who have stomatitis have other things too... And the other things can be many different things... Things that your cat already has...
I suspect your cat has some serious dental issues INSTEAD of FIV. Just my opinion for what is worth...
The vet IMO is not going to do much for you... Since you know he has a dental problem, I would save some $$$, get the care credit, and go straight to the dentist. They can test him for FIV and leukemia in there. He needs to have his lesions addressed anyways, and this way at least you save $$$ with the consult.
