My daughter Faith has two cats, who were both foster kittens of mine. She has been away on holiday and come back to find Bilbo very sick. He was treated by the cattery for a possible abscess on his eye, which is running with gunk. He also has a fever despite having been on antibiotics for three days. The cattery vet gave him Metacam ( I know, I was horrified to hear that). Faith took him to her own vet this morning and they kept him in all day doing tests and swabs while keeping him off meds. The vet does not think it is an abscess. They are talking chlamydia, herpes or at the worst, FIP. THis is not as premature a diagnosis as it could be as both cats spent their early weeks at my house in the company of Harry, my foster who died of FIP. At the time we gave them transfer factor to boost their immunity and htey have been fine since, but the stress of the cattery might be enough to cause a mutation. They are both positive to the virus.
So Faith is very worried and blaming herself for it all. But it is a very good cattery where they have stayed before, and apart from the Metacam they have looked after them well.
Vibes or suggestions are all welcome.
