First of all, I'll be calling the vet tomorrow. I just am hoping for a little advice now if anyone has any.
Cat is going to be three this year. He is a neutered indoor male and has no history of urinary issues. He is overweight and has been dieting for a while. But, it's not really working as he doesn't play or do much of anything but sleep. Lazy sleep, not sickly sleep. He is currently on Science Diet Light (I know it's a terrible food but it's the only food my other cat will eat and I am trying to switch them to raw at the moment). I offer canned food daily, but neither are really interested. He has water down at all times. I've tried them with a drinkwell but he isn't interested.
They are on Sweat Scoop and Petco's corn litter. They have been for well over a year. Neither has ever had a problem with it. They use it regularly and while it's not my favorite, Ivan (our other cat) is picky about it being changed completely frequently and it's a bit less expensive than some of the others.
Anyway, this morning, he peed right in front of me on the carpet. Cat never does anything like this. He's been religious about his box since kittenhood. I can still smell it, even after cleaning it with Natures Miracle. I guess I'll have to clean it a few more times before that smell goes away. Several hours later, I went out and bought new litter despite the litter in there only being a week old. When I got home to change it, he went right in and peed again. It is a strong smell, but I think that is just because the lid was open and it's normally covered.
Two of my dogs get recurring urinary tract infections. He doesn't seem to have any of the same symptoms other than his one accident. I just don't know if it's behavioral or medical. I'll take him in to the vet but I honestly can't believe he did that. It was completely out of character for him.
