My dog recently got fleas, and today I noticed that one of my cats has them too. Once I told my mom she asked me to help apply flea medicine that she got the other day on both of our cats. I wasn't really thinking so I didn't check the box or ask where she got it... I trusted that she knew to get flea medicine from the vet after all the nagging I do about safe products for the pets. She didn't. As soon as I noticed that it was PetArmor Plus (which wasn't until after it was applied) I looked up the reviews just in case I was mistaken and the product was actually ok. It wasn't. I'm not sure if any of you have seen the reviews for this product, but there's TONS of horror stories and cases of pets getting seriously ill and/or dying. I'm a really, really anxious person already (especially about my cats), but this made me totally freak out because I witnessed the sudden and unexplained death of one of my cats a little over a year ago
She kept insisting that they'd be fine, but eventually gave in and helped me clean it off with water because she saw how upset I was. At that point it couldn't have been more than an hour since it was first applied. We washed it off with water and paper towels. More recently we went back over the area with some dawn, water and paper towels because I was still nervous and it seemed like there was still some left (albeit a lot less than there was before). That was probably around 1&1/2 to 2 hours since it was first applied. Since I'm a worrywart I'm still nervous, but do you think I have any reason to be?
Other important things to know:
- Grace (oldest and biggest cat) never showed any problems, she's been acting normal this whole time and right now she's sleeping right next to me.
- Shia (youngest and smallest) vomited a little bit after it was applied and as far as I know she hasn't vomited since. This is what made me go "
, what brand was this medicine again?". It was only a small amount, clear with some fur in it
- Shia seemed like she was acting kind of strange but not too abnormally... Honestly, I'm not sure whether it was really happening or if my mind was playing tricks on me because of my anxiety. She seems to be acting normal now. She was just on my lap getting her head rubbed a few minutes ago. She's running around, climbing. playful, and switching between being wild and calm as per usual. She drank some water and I think she was going to eat before I went and accidentally distracted her.
- Shia would scratch at the area (I think it's because of the fleas that are there and not because of irritation from the medicine)... and then promptly lick her foot that she scratched with. If she consumed any from that I don't think it was much.
- Both cats are ok with me touching the back of their necks so I don't think the medication irritated their skin.
