Hi everyone. Thursday morning my cat Kai went to the vet with a Urinary Obstruction and needed overnight care and to be catheterized twice. He was finally given the "okay" to come home yesterday and I was prescribed both Novo Prazin - 1/2 a tablet every 12 hours, and Metacam once daily for 7 days starting this morning.
This morning as I was getting ready to give him the Metacam I decided to do a quick search on it and found a ton of pages saying not to give Metacam to cats because of potential risks of renal failure. I also found a more recent thread on this forum saying Metacam is safe but should be monitored when giving it to them... The problem is I had to leave the house today and won't be home until about 6:00 tonight and there isn't going to be anyone else there to keep an eye on him, I'm already a nervous wreck leaving him unattended for so long, so soon after his obstruction, the added risks of renal failure didn't even seem like an option to me, so I opted to forego giving him the Metacam. Now I'm questioning if I made the right call?
I don't want him to be in pain, but I also don't want something to happen to him when no one is there to monitor him...
Do you think I made the right call?
