I'm only going to post quick updates for this evening since it's already coming up on 3:00am. But, I did want to make sure I came back and let everyone know how my two little troopers were doing.

First up is Cassidy. My girl had her dental with extractions this morning. I dropped her off at 8:30am and one of my coworkers had called me to let me know that she was out of surgery and resting comfortably before noon. In the end, they did decide to extract both of her upper canines, but she seems no worse for the wear this evening. She was given an injection of Clindamycin and received Buprenex following the procedure and again at home this evening. So, while she still seems a bit groggy and unsure of her surroundings, she is resting comfortably. Thankfully, she took to eating right away and ate a decent portion of her wet food and drank water shortly after returning home from the vet (about 7:30pm). I've since offered her a bit more food and water and she has taken that as well. All in all, while I wish she only needed the one tooth extracted today, I am thankful to see her doing so well after being anesthetized and having a dental cleaning and surgery. I will be picking up additional injections of Clindamycin tomorrow at work and, from there, we will move on to the next phase of treating her gingivitis and stomatitis (and resporptive lesions). I plan on bringing her in with me tomorrow so that I can bathe her and have her hind end shaved, but she is very easy going and shouldn't mind too much having to return to the vet so soon. I just felt it was too much to be done today all at once...
Now onto Finnegan. My boy appears to be perfectly healthy. Thank God. However, since we've found no medical/health causes for his odd behavior and habits, we are left wondering whether the issues he has are behavioral and/or due to severe inbreeding and trauma in kitten-hood. Nonetheless, it was important for him to be seen so that we could continue to rule out more serious causes for his inappropriate eliminating (urinating) and quirky habits. I brought him in to work with me this afternoon and we had a complete blood work run -- CBC, electrolytes, and IOF (internal organ function). Everything came back looking perfect and the vet saw no issues. Everything was well within the normal range. We also got a free catch and a cystocentesis. From there, they looked at the specific gravity and sediment levels, and the chemical analysis. The vet also did a visual check of color and turbidity as well as a microscopic exam of the urine. The urine is also going to be cultured, but I won't have those results for some time yet. Being that everything appeared normal, I went ahead and requested x-rays which, thankfully, also returned negative. And, while we were at it, he got a bath (by me) as well as a complete exam including fecal tests, neurological testing, glucose testing, and the like. He'll continue to be monitored, but it looks more and more like this is something to do with his background and not his current health. And, while he does not like going to the vet, he was a good boy and is now resting comfortably on my bed. And, he's even managed to finagle a treat or two from his meowmy
.
So, all in all, today went well. Actually, it went better than expected. And, while both of their conditions will need to be constantly monitored, it was good to see that they're both doing well. I can handle the quirkiness of Finn and Cassie's issues along with my vets and coworkers. It makes me a very grateful person all around. To be able to care for and provide for my kitties is a gift. And, it's one that I treasure and will continue to hold dear to me for many, many, MANY years to come.
Thank you for all of your vibes and well-wishes. They certainly helped us all today and will continue to help us through as we move forward.
