Following his fall and fractured hip, my father is still in hosptial, unable to stand on his feet and only sporadically feeding himself. The doctors now agree that he should not go back to the Home where he was before, as they cannot cope with non-walking patients. So my sister has been to collect his clothes and cancelled the contract. But the doctors upset my mother yesterday by saying that they do want him out of hospital as soon as possible and that he is now officially homeless! She was in tears last night with some kind of vision of him being dumped on the street. I took a long time to reassure her that he will be kept in hospital until a suitable nursing home is arranged. I know medical staff are busy and overworked but surely they should learn to choose their words more carefully when speaking to very elderly and worried relatives. My mother is still bright at 96, but she does not take everything in first time, especially in a confusing place like a hospital.
