Well, after reading everything all of you had to say, and checking out the links you sent (thank you to all), my daughter and I had a very tearful and difficult talk last night. We agreed that if she didn't die during the night, we would call the vet and have him come to the house in the morning.
Crystal (my kitty) met me in the hallway at 5:30 this morning on her way to drink water out of the bathtub. She was unsteady on her feet, and after drinking and using the litter box, she went back to sleep in her favorite chair.
I called the vet and he came at 11:00 this morning to put her down. My daughter and I talked to her, caressed her, and cried over her until she took her last breath. She remained in her cozy chair all curled up until the end.
We are both very sad, but I know in my heart that I prevented further suffering for her (and us). Thank you for all of your thoughts and opinions - you forced me to consider the options and make a very difficult decision.
