Thank you all so much for the advice and help you gave me for my cat Elvis.
Yesterday I called the vet and he was gone for the day. I left a message for him to call me first thing this morning. But then last night I saw Elvis trying to urinate and he couldn't at all. Then when my boyfriend and I approached him he hissed at us. I knew immediately something was wrong because I have only seen the cat hiss one other time in his life and it was at a dog! There is a 24 hour animal ER here in Philly (but it is notoriously expensive!). But having no choice I took him in right away and the vet there said he was completely blocked. Luckily, from me monitoring him neurotically
it was very early and there was not any real damage done. They unblocked him and kept him for the night. This morning I transferred him from that hospital to our vet, which is also an animal hospital. Poor Elvis was very upset and a little groggy, but I know it was the only choice. Our vet is going to keep Elvis for the next couple of days and do xrays, blood work, monitor him, etc. Luckily they are charging me a flat rate that covers everything and the rate stays whether its 4 days or 10 days. Hopefully my poor kitty won't block again and I can go visit him whenever. The only thing that makes me mad is that the rate for indefinitely is LESS than what I paid for 12 hours in the other hospital
But, I know that even though he could have been able to make it to the morning to go to my regular vet, I would never have forgiven myself if something would have happened to him last night. Thank God for credit cards!
But thank you all for your support, I will keep you posted on how things go!
