Hmmmmm. I just saw your video. I think Woody is playing but Pepper doesn’t really like it.
My Tessa is almost 7 pounds and Smudge is 15 pounds. Smudge gets too playful, but Tessa is very aggressive when she wants to be. So when she makes those noises like your kitty is making, Smudge has learned to back off or get whooped. (Tessa came from a bad breeder and I think she’s used to defending herself). But if Pepper is a gentle kitty, I’m not sure what advice I’d give. Maybe only have them together when you can supervise them, for now? And use a pillow or something instead of your hand to get in between them.
Sometimes if I think my cats are going too far I’ll just clap my hands really loudly and say “HEY!” and Smudge usually stops and back off. But again, little Tessa is pretty tough.
I think your gate idea is a good one.
Oh! One thing we used to do when our cats first met, is I’d sit at one end of the sofa holding Smudge and hubby would hold Tessa. It got them used to being around each other
