Unique Introduction

I believe we have a unique situation, I’ve searched for a similar introduction but I come up with nothing even close. 

My husband and I adopted Mr. Cat in November and I think he’s adjusted very well so far.  Anyways, My husband and I enjoy spending weekends at his parents cottage (Up North for any Michiganders) and we would like to start bring Mr. Cat with us.  My in-laws also have a cat, Rosie, who has been going the cottage with them for 5 years.  So, we wanted to introduce Mr. Cat and Rosie so they could basically become friends.  They won’t be normally living together, they will just be spending weekends together.   

Rosie is small 5-6 pounds and 6 years old, where Mr. Cat is bigger at 12 pounds and only 3 years old. Does their size or age difference even matter?

We decided to bring Rosie over to our house to allow them to meet.  Rosie had previously been to our house a number of times (even staying the week once) before we adopted Mr. Cat so I am sure he smelled her once we got into the house.  At first they ignored each other but then Rosie got curious and went to say Hi to Mr. Cat.  Knowing Rosie this really surprised us, we thought she was more timid than Mr. Cat.  Mr. Cat double in size, it was a crazy sight and he started to growl then hiss at her.  Rosie just sat there (about 6 feet away) and looked at him like “what’s your problem” , she seemed to have no problem with him.  She even got bored, left the room, found Mr. Cat’s toy basket and started playing. 

After about 30 minutes of this Rosie was taken home and Mr. Cat was upset for the rest of the night but he’s fine now.  Does anyone have any suggestions for us?  We would really like Mr. Cat and Rosie to become friends.  Should we do the whole “safe room” thing and have Rosie spend the weekend with us?  But what happens when she goes home? Is all forgotten?

 In a perfect world we would love for them to become playmates and my sister-in-law would be able to bring Rosie over for a play date once a week or so along with them spending some weekends together.  Is this even in cats nature to do such a thing? TIA

Cats are not all the same, ever, which is what I love about them.

 Rosie has 5+ years of  going places, meeting people and other animals. So anything new will not upset her as much as another cat without her experience like your Mr. Cat who has been with you for 3 months. What is his history? How do changes affect him? 

He probably has caught Rosie's scent in your house but it does not mean that he'll welcome and befriend her the moment she comes into what he now calls his territory. So the next time Rosie comes to visit, let her stay in her carrier. Don't let her roam your house (it's Mr. Cat's now). He will check her out and initially might not approve. I am not sure if a weekend stay is enough for some kind of bonding between the two but with cats you never know. We were told Mr. Cat was kicked out of his house when his owners moved and the people who bought the house wouldn't let him back in 

, he's such a sweetheart I don't understand how someone could do that to him.  He then spent 3 weeks at a foster lady's house before we adopted him.  In the bio she wrote about him she said that "I'm gentle and get along with the resident cat" and I thought she said that he stayed in a safe room but by the end of the day another one of her cats came in the room and they were fine together.  

I don't know what other changes have happened in this past 3 months to be able to judge how he handles them.  I was told my cousin brought over her shih tzu yesterday and my cousin and the dog never left the kitchen table and Mr. Cat sat in the doorway of the other room and got as big as he possibly could (he's already bigger then the dog) but he didn't make any noises. 

Rosie does not have a carrier lol.  Mr. Cat does, would it be an ok idea to take Mr. Cat to Rosie's house and leave him in his carrier.  How long should he stay in his carrier?  We thought the night we first brought him home he would stay in his carrier for at least an hour or so before he felt comfortable enough to come out but he immediately hopped right out, then not 5 minutes later he wanted out of what was going to be his safe room.  I dont think he likes small spaces lol.

We did the slow introduction with my two resident cats and the neighbors outside cat. First she stayed in a different room and they sniffed through the door, then we let them look at each other but kept them apart, then we let them get close and sniff each other. This whole process took several sessions. When they finally were allowed to interact freely there was a little hissing but no real problems. Allenkm, that gives us hope.  I would like to add that we don't know too much about Rosie's kitty life.  Our Aunt saw a kitten on her customers porch in the rain and she thought the kitten was her customers cat who had somehow gotten out of the house.  So our Aunt brought the cat home when she got a hold of her customer and told her she had her cat and the customers response was "I dont own a cat' so that's when my in-laws adopted a cat. 

I have read that one cat wants to be dominate and the non-dominate cat will "back down".  We don't know if Rosie got separated from her littler mates too soon and doesn't know how to back down.  Then again we don't know what "backing down" even looks like.

My other questions is, when should our next session be? Our first was 2 weeks ago but I dont want to stress him out too much.
