My boyfriend and I recently moved. We have two indoor/outdoor cats. We've been here about 3 weeks and the kitties loved it. About a week ago, one of our cats went missing. We thought maybe someone took him in thinking he was a stray, or maybe he got lost. We posted flyers, emailed everyone in the complex, and posted all over social media but haven't heard anything. Then, couple nights ago, our other cat disappeared as well and has not come home since. They usually come home every night, so this is unlike them. We are incredibly suspicious and worried. How have two of our babies gone missing in the same week? Has anyone ever ran into anything like this? We are so terribly devastated and worried about them. Did somebody take them, and if so why would they do such a thing? Please help, any advice or thought is appreciated. We are so lost and sad we don't know what to do. Thank you.

How far away was your old place? Three weeks isn't long enough for a cat to feel at home in a new house/apartment, which is why it's recommended to keep them indoors only for 2 -3 months. They both might be trying to find their way to your old home, so you need to put up posters and talk to neighbors and the closest shelter there. Are they microchipped and registered?

We had gone outside with them the first week or so, then they've been coming home every night since then so we thought they knew where we lived now. We weren't aware of the recommended time. Our old place is about 3 miles away, and we checked there recently. We have also put up posters, checked shelters, and notified the neighborhood about our first cat that went missing. We haven't with our second one, though. Neither of them are microchipped sadly. What do you advise to do next?

Place the litter box they used in your backyard, they will be attracted to the scent of familiarity and can smell it from far away. If they can get to it unhindered (not in someone’s house or attacked already) then you will see them in no time.

If you have already gotten rid of their litter, then put some clothes, rags or towels outside that they liked to lay on.

Some people like to use stinky food as well, but I would advise against this as other animals will pick up on the smell too.

We are so terribly devastated and worried about them. Did somebody take them, and if so why would they do such a thing? Please help, any advice or thought is appreciated. We are so lost and sad we don't know what to do.
