Jo Kreps: Fat and big are two different things. I have one all black short haired boy who has no fat on him and he weighs 18 lbs! He does not look all that big and he is 8 years old. When he jumps on my bed and lands on me I really know that this is one big cat. I tried to measure him when he was lying down with his paws all tucked in and his tail wrapped around him and as well as I could it came out to 18 inches from nose to base of tail.  My other semi-long haired  also black boy weighs 14 lbs and he's not fat either. He actually LOOKS bigger than the other one. He was just at the vet and I made sure that it was just "big cat", not "Fat Cat".

Depending on the breed of cat it can take as long as 4, yes FOUR years for them to reach their complete size. It's always a big breed like a Maine Coon (or their mixed descendants) that takes that long. Maine Coons, if they are male, can reach 25 lbs without being fat. So can a Snowshoe or a Ragdoll. However, most cats have reached their adult size and weight by the time they are 2 years old. So your fur baby still has a long way to go. On the other hand this may be as big as he is going to get. Don't worry about him, the vet will tell you if he gets fat.

Forgive me for adding one more of Domino with his Binkie. I don't think he'll ever stop kneading and trying to nurse. He is 6 months old and weighs 8 lbs and 11 oz.  Love the little fellow!
So cute.  Look at those big white paws!

The two foster kitties went back to their regular foster home last night, so I took this short video before they left. You can see my own two cats in it too - it's tuxedo cat heaven! :)

Sure, he's a tuxedo. I love his crooked little tail. Lots of my cats have got short, bent or curly tails. What's Hades history? Does he have the Manx or Bob-tail gene?

I haven't the foggiest about his genealogy. He was found by the soda machine in my building, crying. A couple in the building said he's from a litter of strays that they had been feeding at midnight. If so, he's the best behaved stray I've ever met.
